By the way, has anyone on here got a Z4?

Thinking of trading in my RCZ R for one.....anyone got anything good/bad to say about them?

Don't want any sticky roof's or leaks....reliability is a key requirement. (and don't say "well if that's the case, why are you running a French car"...the RCZ R is one of the best cars I have ever owned....yeah I know.... surprised me too !)
I've had my Z4 3.0, 53 plate Auto. for about 18 months now, absolutely love it, it's my only car so is an every day use car. I really cannot honestly think of anything negative to say about it.

Tony.

Thanks Tony. Don't think I can run to the 3.0....was thinking of the higher HP 2.0....is it the 28i ?....only a 4 pot though...but gets a good write up.

Not having, normally, the slightest bit of interest in French cars, I have just realized which car you are talking about as my mates garage just sold a 2014 model for € 30.950,- ......

This really goes against the grain but I am going to say it, I think they look fantastic and I would have one.
Are they all 1.6 though? I was told it had 270bhp though.....

Yep, 1.6 turbo, 274bhp, limited slip diff, special pistons, con rods and crank. It really does squeeze a quart out of a pint pot. Goes like you know what off a shovel....I would have another but they have stopped making them....shame, a great little car.

Car came back today, got straight on it....having trouble getting the wiper splines back up through the holes. Seems like the wheel box is caught on something...probably just me being to enthusiastic and not thinking straight....I will leave it till tomorrow.

Thanks Jim, the colour is great (my wife's choice really, as I am colour blind), drawn nice comments from the neighbours already.

Managed to get the wiper splines up through the holes tonight, with a bit of a struggle. Also got in contact with a hood fitting shop (The Trimming Centre in Lewes, Sussex) Steve, the owner, is going to see if they can get their supplier to let them have a Z3 hood with no window in it....then they will sew in a window in whatever shape and size I want....so fingers crossed. It was the first time I have spoken to a trim shop where I didn't feel like I was treated as being a "nuisance" ....you know what I mean? I wonder how some places stay in business when they treat potential customers with distain. :depressed:

Hopefully finish aligning the wipers tomorrow (I'm really only doing them because getting just one thing back on, and working, will make me feel good) then start changing the front springs on Sunday.

Too bad you're colourblind because it's one gorgeous paint colour and your wife has great taste! And yes, just getting one small thing back on is a treat and one less thing to do! JIM

May be worth getting in touch with Soft Tops in Croydon, They have the equipment to cut the cloth and windows themselves and with a bit of encouragement made a new Z3 hood for me with the original style side pockets (added by BMW to improve folding but not used on replacement hoods as far as I found out). Soft Tops is a very small back street outfit but they made a really good job of my hood and the cost was reasonable too.

just to add that @gookah had his done in Swansea and the guy there makes them himself so should be able to do custom work. Because he makes them his price is low something under £400 I think.

I'm interested to do something different when I need a new hood. The way the standard one fold the plastic window irrates - if it doesn't fold perfectly horizontal I have to get out and make sure it does then fold down (occasionally it will make a weird vertical crease and if you let it down like that it can split or make strange fold marks). I'm thinking a smaller window might fold better but might be trial and error. I quite like no window at all actually!

It was me that had one done in Swansea, £300 fully made up and fitted. He actually said that people doing these conversions have asked for different style roofs with extra windows and different designs which I'm sure he said he has made up for them. He makes them himself and will do pretty anything from what he was saying. He was actually explaining to me that he wants to make a Z3 roof with a glass window but has yet to find a way.

The guy at Croydon is also excellent, I've now used both and not been disappointed with either.

I guess a Z3 roof with a glass window would be ideal but it's how the roof folds and into what space that limits the possibilities.

That would be innovative mate, but you would have a fold still like the Z3 plastic ones acquire with age.
