Brian H - Dakar Z3

Update 28

A great day out at Cadwell Park on the 17th May, First time i have properly been able to use the Yokohama AD048 tyres all day, they are a harder tyre than the Toyo R888 and take a lap or so to get some heat in to.

A few laps at the end of the day, We now have sound :)

BTW, the vertical axis on the g force meter is back to front :(

That's brilliant Brian. I liked the extra info on the screen. Looks like you know the track well :P

That is a very fast car driven very well. Nice one Brian.

It makes me want to start fettling with mine but not sure if I want to ride that slippery slope.............££££££

Update 29 - Aerial Base

A small update this time, the aerial base grommet was looking tired and starting to break up so a new one was ordered.

Part number : 5

Single components f short rod antenna - BMW parts catalog

Fitting is not too hard, removal of the hydraulic roof motor and aerial allows the replacement of the grommet, a little washing up liquid as temp lubricant worked a treat to get it in to the final position.

Update 30 - Engine Mounts

A routine check around the engine bay and I noticed what looked like shreds of plastic coming off my viscous fan blades, a quick look around and chat on this forum it was soon diagnosed as knackered engine mounts, luckily my strut brace seems ta have saved me big time as the movement in the engine was restricted.
Below, small amounts of plastic flaking off the top of the fan blade: -

The lower fan cowling must take the brunt of the pressure as you can see below plastic deposits accumulating: -

Which brand of mounts are those Brian?

Had a drive yet to see if you can feel a difference?

I'll be dammed if I can remember just now Dino, must be old age, I'll dig out the invoice and let you know.

That mount well and truely let go the new ones look substantial.
Yes the new ones are a different type, the OEM are floating mounts I.e. The top and bottom fixings are bonded to the rubber, the new ones are mechanically fixed, there is a screwed rod right the way through them, at idle you can feel the engine vibration a little more, I bought them on a sale or return basis and TBH the jury is still out.

Well this update is a little different to the others, the time has come to return the car back to standard, I have already moved a few parts on to other members, progress is a lot slower than I want but time just disappears.

List of jobs to do are:-

Remove updated engine mounts and put back to OEM.
Remove the BC coilovers and replace with stock suspension.
Replace Aircon pipe in lower front bumper.
Remove big brake kit and replace all calipers with refurbished units.
Replace the rear beam bushes with standard powerflex.
Refit the spare wheel carrier.
Remove the search seats and refit the original ones.
Tidy up paintwork.
Full service.

I'm sure there will be more to do, I'll try and keep this up to date.

To date I have manage to replace the Aircon pipe, old one had corroded at the joint between the hose and the fitting.

I have cleaned up and painted the calipers and carriers for the car, new braided hoses ordered. (One carrier is already on the car :) )

Yes Stacey, this car has been absolutely brilliant, I don't want it to rot away or gather cobwebs, I would love for someone else to create a new chapter for the car and have the enjoyment I have had.

It's ok, you don't need too many upgrades for parade laps ;)
Have to say seeing the your Dakar in the flesh gave me a new appreciation for a yellow Z3, don't think I'd actually seen one before. It great colour, especially on a rainy day.

I don't think @Brian H will have much hassle selling it on.

We will see about that Dino, I've always been open about how I use the car, it has been used and tracked, this may/may not work in my favour.

Coming along then Brian.
What colour is that you've painted the brakes.
