Well done Brian, i think yours were in worse condition than mine! I think everyone should have a good look at this as the cars are now 15 years plus old.

It will certainly be a lot better than it was last week, TBH the trailing arms did not look too bad on the car, after a bit of scraping I decided that they were only coming off the car once so sort them now. It looks as if they had had some form of underseal/rubberised coating on, the water had penetrated the coating.

I totally agree Rich, I like to think I know my car pretty well but they are of the age where they need a little more TLC.

I forgot to say, have a look at the tank straps while you have access

They have been in the corner of my eye on a few occasions, too scared to look. No, seriously will address this before it all goes back together, did you buy new ones Rich? Pricey?
 
Not too bad Brian got them from the rybrook online, one is £12 the other is £38.

I bought some rubber strip in a roll off Amazon for £5 rather than buy the bmw strips as I thought they were expensive, happy to send you some up, I just used contact adhesive to apply it.

If you have some spare that would be good Rich, let me know how much I owe you. I'm going to place an order for the straps and just get it done.

Didn't you reenforce the arb plates? Certainly when powdercoating them again. And as you track your zed.

No did not reinforce them, it would have been nice but something I did no get round too.
 
Update 17 - Brake Protection plates Part 3

Well another busy day, trailing arms back from the powder coaters, DSC sensor fitted.

Finally what prompted all this work, the Brake Protection Plate...... Yay, Handbrake cable and shoes fitted prior to the rear hub being installed.

Just missing a few clips for the brake line, will get them this week.

Powder coating looks great Brian, should last a while, I'm going to use your pics as an aid when rebuilding mine thanks.
 
Wow Brian! This is what I want to sort out on Rosie in a year or so time. The rear end refresh we did just highlighted it's all a bit messy under there, and I'd love to be able to take the time and do it so it's fully protected underneath!

Update 18 - BC Coilovers & Cadwell Park

Well everything is back together and bedding in nice, Top Tip for everyone though, drop the rear beam if you want to put on new trailing arm bushes as putting the training arms back in with the rear beam in situ was a right royal PITA. Fitting the drive shaft back in to the rear hub proved a little tricky also #tightfit :)

Whilst my car was in a state of Flux I also changed over the whole suspension for a BC-Racing kit, the kit itself went on smoothly but the rear 6kg springs supplied were too soft for my liking so I opted to fit a stiffer 8kg spring.

That Escort driver seemed rather ragged though, not sure if it's the car or him just throwing it at the corners. His turn in seemed a little questionable on some corners, but nice of him to eventually get out of your way.

The guy driving is an ex rally champ, he certainly knows how to push that Escort, at one point he had just three wheels on the track :)
