Took the drivers doorcard off to see what horrors awaited me…. And quite surprised…

Doorcard ok, no damage as such, and only the speaker grill to clean a spray black.
And only 4 of the fixing studs were broken…

same amount of speaker wire plus a crossover unit. So labelled them and will reconnect it all and hope it all works
All the bottom white cable fixings ok , but the tape had disintegrated so the wiring was all loose.

The acoustic door sleeve was in good condition… and using a putty knife managed to cut through all the black gloop and remove it.

The other one is not too good, so will replace it.

Now these were off was able to disconnect the wing mirror wire and finally take the broken mirror off !!

Cant work out how to get the wiring off ????

611FBDC9-25A2-4F33-935A-B6775AC0B037.jpeg

It seems to be fixed both ends ???
One end has a 4way plug that is too big to go through the base…. The other end has the wires fixed to the motor unit !!!!

Confused now:whistle:

next job will be to clean all the residues of the black gloop off both doors…….oh what fun:eek:

The wires at the motor head terminate in miniature spade connectors Malc. Just pull them out with snipe nosed pliers ensuring you grip the actual metal connector and not the wire.
Oh and being a rock star and all that make sure you note where each wire went :D

Thought I would make a start on the doors this afternoon........

3 hours......and still not finished cleaning them.......I only spend about 30 minutes cleaning the 1.9 and the Kia !!!!!

Bloody gloop is awful to get off!!!!!
But nice when its clean......

Gave up on this one and will finish it tomorrow.....

Had a play with the door speaker grills. There is a foam which has disintegrated in both grills.....so took them apart
D9C907A2-05B8-4631-992B-400786099C2E.jpeg

I will clean the old foam off and get some nice blue or black speaker material and replace after the mesh has been cleaned and given a matt black spray.

The doors should look quite reasonable once they are all finished and back together.

This is what was stuck in the cigarette socket .........URGH!!!!!!!!

How crap is that !!!!!!.....and you will notice that I have changed the ashtray to a little storage tray...( courtesy of Andy )
And I found a few bits in the door today....
3CCA92EB-233D-4B32-BB39-59E78AD56612.jpeg

A power outlet cover which fits the lighter socket....and look so much better
And these....
3F84C7D1-B196-4360-AD9A-5FDFE80935D4.jpeg

Tesco token....will put it in the box next time.....A penny.......so the overall cost has now been reduced  ,

And something that I have no idea what it is.....dont think its a Z3 part though..........

Black fabric weed membrane works perfectly behind them speaker grills in place of the rotten foam. Cheap and easy to cut to shape, most people have some of it lying around in the shed.

That's a great tip Dave, I may have some to bring home after getting some gardening done.

Another hour cleaning the door this morning…but now all nice and clean and gloop free!
2588D5EB-379F-48C8-898C-B41AAC168264.jpeg

So onwards….after reading Bentleys:whistle:
And all the glass and seals removed.

24A2D6A7-B883-41A6-9676-DF079D57C5D7.jpeg

Couple of rust spots to sort, but the paint guys can do that.
Thats as far as I need to go on the doors, so went back to sorting little bits again.
8735193F-1D61-420F-90A3-2250B5FE7180.jpeg

Stripped down the rear speaker covers and will do the same job as I will do on the door card grills. Also may be able to dremel off part of that ring to make them fit properly. Just need to check how much needs to come off.

took @Synclare ‘s advice…..
6F51A378-441E-4B18-8F91-BA4620FE23F6.jpeg

They all came out ok and now I know where to put them back =))

But how do you get the ring off ?????
659584BF-C673-45B9-87CF-5C268F3EC18F.jpeg

Cut it and get a new one ???

Might do some more later ( like cleaning all the glass I have removed) but need to get some matt black spray, small cable ties and weed control material…..and an all day breakfast :happy::happy:

Satin black is a far better paint than Matt black . I’ve always got a can, or 2, in the cupboard. Very versatile paint.

Well a Blue 2.8 arrived today , as in Wheeler Dealer tradition, on a trailer!!!!
View attachment 173865

This seem a good idea when I saw it advertised, and what it had failed its MOT on didnt seem too daunting....

View attachment 173863

But ....not good !!!
Far more going on with it than I was led to believe :arghh:

So....initial plan of action.....go through it all and get a list of what needs doing to bring it up to a decent standard....and then decide if Its worth it.
Some of the problems are just labour hopefully, like removing the interior to get the carpets out.....a bit a wetness there judging by the musty smell........... but I think I better get Andy, Adrian and Robert on speed dial !!! As there are quite a few bits that I think I will need.
Better set up RealOem on the Ipad for this car too.

Engine looks clean, and cant see any evidence of any accident damage. Needs new sills, and possibly rear wings.....exhaust is noisy, but don't know where from yet.

Main concern is the engine management light ......although I suppose it could just be a sensor not working or disconnected??????

Roof would need to be replaced, and would get a blue one if I do.
Seats aren’t too bad, passenger seat works ok, drivers one goes back and forward but not up and down......sounds like the drive shaft is rattling and not connected??

The silver one wont be happy about being kept outside now.......but I have bought a storm cover to keep it dry=))

First thing I have to work out is how to get the bloody electric roof down......never had one before!!!!
Electric roof only operates under strick conditions.
Engine running
handbrake on
foot on brake pedal
doors closed and windows slightly lowered
then unlatch roof and push it up about 20cms
operate the roof open button mines at the back between the seats,
if it doesn’t move push it up a bit higher.
same procedure for closing it.

I am a long way off from having thd roof working =))

A bits and pieces day today….
Started with sorting out the speaker grills.
New material bought and grills sprayed ( satin Black a la @t-tony ). And happy with the result
049DB58D-9C01-425B-9B67-DCA29AF649F3.jpeg

EC3EFA13-2F7C-4430-ADA2-75BE67C9F7EE.jpeg

with a bit of dremmeling on the two rear ones ……Got them to fit over the speaker
E861D149-47D8-4DD6-9577-2967F791573C.jpeg

so sorted out
door speakers in a similar fashion… also cleaned the door cards
EB53021E-706E-4AED-AB35-55FEC41AE9EF.jpeg

6AD82559-3F76-4411-A167-BF79CF0A3437.jpeg

Certainly better than they were

I cleaned the glass removed from the doors and left them to dry in the sun before carefully putting thrm all in the boot for safe keeping.

Next was to sort out a rattle in the drivers door card….. It turned out to be some money trapped under the coin box …
9CF09D8E-99EA-4377-9625-03ABC1803270.jpeg

and 66p !!!!
88B409F7-E4E9-4A0E-BD53-8324F3479DC9.jpeg

If this carries on the car will pay for itself:whistle:

Did a bit of tidying up of the additional speaker wires as there is a cross over in each door. So had to extend the cables on one side to keep things neat and not have them in the way of anything else.
8D39243B-7385-4679-A453-A2A3180C45E6.jpeg

This is what they attach to
C5CDC6B5-5A6D-43DB-A9C9-31FD602A5E10.jpeg

And this is where it will sit
C1463799-8383-4A69-B30D-6A607301112E.jpeg

Next was a little issue with the ashtray light…
Part of the ashtray was missing, and the lid didn’t close… so I got a oddment box from Andy which replaces it….. but what to do about the light……
8B4D30D3-5851-4007-BEB8-A559B965130F.jpeg

So after a bit of butchery on the ashtray

I had the part that holds the light bulb cut out

CAC64512-72E7-48D0-AD24-BBF9B12F4E84.jpeg

and after a bit of creativity… it will be fixed here
64E2494C-5D76-4660-962A-8EB8E9C62888.jpeg

Yes I know there are more important things to be doing….. but these little bits are quite fun to do … and I quite like solving all these issues.

Also got the handbrake adjusted so should be able now to put the centre console back in ( next week !!)

One thing I did realise today as I
was sorting out the mirror parts ….. they differ from side to side!!!!!!
106F5D4F-39D0-4B67-98DE-B91D2953B064.jpeg

The drivers side mirror has a larger base than the passenger one !!!!
You can tell by the Gasket…. And it is the same on prefacelift and facelift as I have both types and they are different on both cars!!!
….. or different mirrors have ended up on both cars=))=))

And I always like leaving you feeling smug and thinking what a complete doughnut I am….
So ……
I installed all the Roll bar hoops and stowage boxes last week ……. But I forgot that this bit should have gone in first as its held down by it all
E2A4B721-613F-4224-9A43-7F07F4987334.jpeg

B****cks!!!! That will be another hour wasted!!!
But I will do it with the garage door shut …. Its bad enough that you lot think I’m a numpty without the neighbours thinking it as well =))=))=))

oh and by popular demand …. another ‘musical masterpiece’…will be out soon:arghh:
