Its a shame you are not on commission :)

Will have to get the polisher out on mine then Jim

With my Z3 starting to show signs of corrosion I have toyed with the idea of buying an Audi A4 softtop in October and re building the Z3 over the winter, but that would mean two largish cars in the family and I really dont have time to spend on the Z3, So been casting my eye over the Z4 3.0, I will be honest, I really am not a fan of the Z4:whistle: but I want a two seater and cant find anything else that I would be happy with, so come October I may get myself a Z4:grumpy:, but it has to be a 3 litre, and Shiny Black.

Hello Jim,

You say your Z3 is showing signs of rust. How bad is it and where? I'm fairly new to Zed ownership having come from running a sixties classic. I would like to get a better idea of potential corrosion problems before they get too expensive! I notice your Z3 is the same age as mine. Any gen you can give would be appreciated.
Cheers,

Jonno

they only tend to rust at either end of the sill covers the small front wing panels just behind the front wheels and the rear arches though I have only ever seen one car with rear arches rusted but all the body panels including the sills and rear arches are bolt on panels so quite easily permanently rectified some cars also get superficial small surface rust scabs around the engine bay/slam panel .these cars are generally not known to have serious rust problems like say a Mazda mx5

Thanks Paul.
I looked at a few before choosing mine and I was pleasantly suprised by the lack of corrosion on a 16 year old car. With a bit of TLC these cars should last ages!
Cheers,
Jonno

Well Z4 owner from today, been for a quick run out with her:) totally different beast to the Z3, But I can live with that, just one thing I don't like, and that's the doors sound terrible when you close them:( sounds like someone kicking a biscuit tin down an alley.

Cheap and nasty Jim :ymdevil:

Mine sound solid :pompus:

Last of the quality roadsters

We noticed that as well Jim. After a time you dont actually notice. We used to say closing the Z3 doors. "sounds like a BMW" and the Z4 we said "doesnt sound like a BMW" :p But apart from that they are actually a nice car to drive. Have you tried the sport button ?

They do sound bad if they are closed with the same force as the Z3. You need to get used to it that they don't need as much force to close them, and then they sound fine.

Also @TaffZee, don't slam the boot lid too hard, it's a common cause of the third brake light cracking.
