Well version 2 is now alive. Starts right up and great oil pressure. Cam noises are much better then the old 2.8. Sounds much quieter all together.

That said it still needs a tune. Doesnt idle well and with all the chnages to drive by wire it sits really high and just isnt right but that was expected until it is tuned.

Only outstanding items on the engine is to retorque the head now that it has a couple of heat cycles and repalce the fuel pump with a larger one. Have a big pump fitted into a spare carrier and the plumbing but found I have the wrong relay to increase the wire sizes so will get that next week.

Will talk to the tuners next week about remoting it in to see if they can get it drivable if not I will trailer it to them. All depends on when they have space to get me in.

Spoke to the tuners and they are going to try and remote in Monday to get it drivable. Dyno sessions are about three weeks out. Will figure it out next week.

It's dirty and filthy but it moves on it's own power.

Tuners dialed in and sorted the idle and drive by wire set up.

They had told me it was going to be a two to three weeks wait for a Dyno session. Then they asked if I could be there Thursday. Aaahhhhhhh. Was going to use the time to catch up with the little niggly bits.

So that meant I needed to get the last major task done. After a long day and a lot of mess it has a large pump, plumbing and wiring that all works. But now the fuel gauge is dead. Runs so that's all that matters and I will transfer the parts from my original hanger later.

Very successful day. Nothing leaked or fell on the floor. Just finishing up some of the drivability. Will send details later but it made 550hp.
Look forward to the dyno charts..oops arrived..

Healthy numbers…

How do you manage knock detection on that engine?

I assume it wasn’t a priority for the designers as a NA engine..

As stated the M52tu and M54 has two knock sensors already. The ECU I fitted for the turbo mods uses these two sensors to detect any and reduce timing if required. The tuners also installed a third sensor for the Dyno while they were doing their wizardry.

Now i been in that car when it had 420 bhp and it was Impressively quick another 130 bhp if you can get the power on the road right it will be ridiculous :scorecard: :racecar:

Do you log the IAT into /out off the FMIC?

I assume it’s running on 99 RON?

ECU uses intake temps as part of the mapping. That was one of the limiting factors that we ran into. There is more in the engine but intake temps were starting to rise at that power level. I'm more then happy with the power and will never be doing back to back full load runs in normal life.

Increasing the air cooler wouldn't be easy so things will stay as they are.

Firstly I have to say this is a garage based project and not perfect. Exhaust is still to noisy for my taste but thats the downside of getting good flow. The car runs on pump gas and is still my daily driver. It still drives like a dream and sits in traffic without any problems. But it also shifts when you press the skinny pedal.

Right now it dynoed out at 550hp at 22 psi of boost. Main limiting factor was the intake temps started to climb. Being a rhd car the exhaust manifold is a log style for space so it could be beter and a few other things but that said I am super happy how it runs. Wastegate pumpbing was a nightmare but I have it back into the exhaust so it doesnt shoot flames and sound like a jet engine. Turbo is tucked down low requiring a scavange pump for the oil but the exhaust is not sitting on the rocker cover and there are no cuts in the bonnet. The air filter is a little tricky to clean as its behind and below the right headlight but it gets cool clean air.

Today I need to change the oil and drain the radiator to add antifreeze and it will be ready for normal use. Only remaining item to fix is the fuel gauge sender. I swapped in a different fuel pump carrier I had modified to take the larger pump and the sender doesnt work. Will modify the one I took out and put it back in.

You mention pistons and rods. Are the the bearings and crank all standard?
