Yes, rear mounts were the same Steve.Nice one,you didn't hang about .
Did the new top mounts fit mate?.
When you doing the front ones ?.
Pleased to hear it's made an improvement after all that hard work Brian, nice work .Yes, rear mounts were the same Steve.
Done the fronts already.
Just been out for a quick spin to bed them in , one hell of a difference, the steering wheel doesn't get snatched out of my hands on the bumpy stuff.
The passenger side front mount was shot, all the shocks were, frankly shocking and one front spring was 25mm longer than the other, i'm guessing that one was changed at some point (so much for changing them in pairs).
Surprisingly the new rear springs were 15mm shorter than the old ones but I think they are probably stiffer as the ride height is higher than before, although they need a bit more settling in first.
Thanks Steve, it is a big improvement. New tyres and alignment check next, then it will be spot on.

You've put me off having a go myself though, thank god for @t-tony .
I think just of my rear springs was replaced before I bought the car so like yours it sometimes doesn't sit level, sits lower on the drivers side.
I shouldn't think you were! Hope you get it sorted. So, got all my shocks the other day. Mechanic fitting them today and the last one they came to do on the back was a shock absorber for a Mercedes SLK in the box for a Z3
Not best pleased!!
No worries mate. Glad you did the hard ones first.Had a go at fitting the new rear shocks and springs today, which turned out successful .
New top mounts and reinforcement plates as recommended by @Dino D,thanks Dino.

The old shocks were absolutely shot, when I unbolted the top mounts, they just dropped down through the hole .
The old springs were different to each other as well, perhaps why the car leant down on the near side sometimes.

The off side shock appeared to be leaking but I thought they we're gas filled, not oil ?.
Only had time for a little test ride and it felt much firmer, just seems to be making a noise driving down rutted roads, but fine over small pot holes etc.
Maybe it needs time to bed in.
Not brave enough to tackle the front struts,@t-tony .
They're a doddle, me and @Mint breezed through Grump's ones, didn't we Dave?I did the front first Tony, they were a pain in the ass, never want to do them again.
It's the compressing the front springs Tony that worries me,don't like the look of them spring compressors in Halfords.
Haha yes Tony once we'd realised the struts were handedThey're a doddle, me and @Mint breezed through Grump's ones, didn't we Dave?
Tony.
That's a point mate,I noticed the rear drop links look tired. I'll get some ordered.Nice work Steve are the anti roll bar bushes and links in good order may be a bit of your rattle.
Ohhh new suspenders on, good job Steve. Just in time for the Peaks run on Sunday....Only had time for a little test ride and it felt much firmer, just seems to be making a noise driving down rutted roads, but fine over small pot holes etc. Maybe it needs time to bed in.
I think mine might be the better option Steve, whenever you have a break in your schedule. It's the compressing the front springs Tony that worries me,don't like the look of them spring compressors in Halfords.
Are there some you'd recommend ?
I remember it being fairly straight forward, but then you've done hundreds of them.
Thanks mate, they are easy even for me.Ohhh new suspenders on, good job Steve. Just in time for the Peaks run on Sunday.
Would you like to go down that 'special locked road' again
how you fixed for tomorrow .I think mine might be the better option Steve, whenever you have a break in your schedule.
