Just wanted to post this here. In the IT help thread a member was having issues with his laptop and I mentioned that I would be happy to repair or upgrade peoples laptop or desktops at the ZedShed for them free of charge. I have the tools and the experience in sorting out problems with both Windows and Mac makes of laptops. If you provide the parts, I can normally have them installed in 30 mins for you. Also I can go over setting up any software , like if you have a Windows 8.1 or 10 OS computer, but would prefer to have Windows 7 as it runs so well and Microsoft have extended it's support period until 2022, which means you would really notice a machine run much better.

I strongly advise swapping over to an SSD (Solid State Disc) for any computer, but in laptops they improve how quick the system runs so much. I can help you choose the right parts for whichever computer you have, so you can get them for the best price and save a lot of money having the parts installed properly. I can also help people with getting software running and even help you set up a home network/server if needed.

This is my way of contributing to the Shed and offer a different angle as I can't do sod all with working on cars, but computers play a big role in how we all keep together as a club, as we use home computers for the forums and events. Would this be of use to any of the members who go down the shed?

Side note, my old man will happily go through paint correction/machine polishing with you all if you want to set up some dates? He's also been learning more about ceramic coating your paintwork, which is still a fairly unknown process that makes your paint look amazing and protects long term, with no need to wax the car. For this stuff to work, you need to have the paintwork in perfect order underneith for it to look right, so some lessons could save you about £600+ by doing it yourself.

Ugghhh , I've had to use them during my degree at Uni and when I worked in the NHS. Because I don't deal with SQL/Database stuff , rather end user stuff sorting stuff out, it's not a skill I've had to really get to familiar with. My last big project was helping the City Council upgrade the users machines from XP to 7 and Office 2011 etc back in 2012/13 , was just finishing the project off when my back totally let go on me and I was unable to sit in a chair without a lot of pain. I try to keep my skills up best I can, but waiting for a spinal implant to be fitted is a long drawn out process to say the least!

Bloodyhell that sounds like dedication. I used to work a little with Oracle but my recent post (12 years and counting now) is mainly Linux. I am a Oracle (Sun) Solaris professional but we don't have much of that here and I've probably forgotten a lot of it now :D

As an IT person, I have worked for five companies (in fact only my first job from an apprentice was pure engineering) including what is now BAE Systems in Barrow-in-Furness. The companies have mostly been engineering except Warwick University and Bradford Community Housing Trust (name changed now I guess).

I'm actually a mechanical draughtsman, or that was where I started back in 1980. CAD/Data management lead me to IT. Apart from Solaris Certification my qualifications are all mechanical engineering but I get by :p

Lee, is this guy still the go-to person for 68mm TB?
He’s the guy I used too - his business is actually Howe Fast Perfomance- check him out on FB:

Helped me out when I thought I had an issue with the TB he bored out for me - turned out it just needed adjustment of the grub screw.
Also did my ASC body.

He does other stuff like heads etc

He just replied to me. Still doing M52B28 TB’s but cannot do the M52TUB28, I do not know why but am about to ask.

There's nothing you can do with the TU throttle body I'm afraid. It's half electronic half throttle cable and the old B28 is all throttle cable.

Hi Lee

He explained to me that it is because he is not able to get them apart without damaging the circuit board. He says they are “tamper proof”.

I may have to buy a spare one (anyone have one?) to see if I can open it up & get it back together again. If it is just damage to the plastic case, maybe an ally case can be made.

Have to try, cannot have all you “single vanos” lot having more power!

It’s a little bit more involved then that. The electronics and gears that drive the flap plus all the wizardry stuff.
I have a spare unit but it’s not worth it, either fit the adapter plate or change to the M54 TB with everything else.

Thanks Lee,

The M52TUB body is on the car via adaptor plate onto M54B30 manifold/DISA (big difference in airflow). I do still have the M54B30 full fly-by-wire TB so I could convert. Can you think of any links to someone who has done it, or is it not worth the effort.

I have read that the FBY feels weird, but no experience of this personally.

ZedShed Bulletin

Just a heads up to all that follow the Zedshed HQ we'll be taking a step back from nut & bolt builds for a while, we'll be going back to doing jobs that can be completed on the day eg: Suspension, Servicing brakes etc.

After the 24 zeds over the last 14months and various cars in-between we need a little break :)
