Hi AndyAs I'd hoped I got the rear brakes fitted today, I didn't buy new shoes for the parking brake as they rarely wear out on these setups unless they are sticking or adjusted up too much so just refitted the old shoes

New discs and stripped and repainted carrier and caliper

other than getting the shoes fitted which is always a pig the longest part was adjusting up the handbrake so that both sides are balanced
the car is now off the lift and back on it's wheels and hasn't rolled off the drive yet
I'm not sure what's next probably Motor mountings then the front battery box which I'm not looking forward to I hate welding ally mainly because I'm crap at it
Yes l understand what you're saying and agree I did clean and inspect them before re-fitting and there were no signs of degradation, I agree it's always a risk but isn't everythingHi Andy
Ali Bro here from YT.
I've been reading through this thread to catch up on your build and had to reply to this. Apologies if it's already been mentioned but you may want to reconsider the decision to keep the old shoes. I had a very nasty experience a few months ago in my 2012 C Class when one of the inboard brake shoes decided to let go of the friction material. I was coming up to a junction when the brake pedal suddenly went to the floor and I nearly rear ended the car in front.
These shoes don't wear but do degrade so should be replaced every few years.
Now back to reading through this amazing thread.
Funny thing is the one I bought was faulty too which was the catalyst for me going down a totally different route.Tested the power steering Saturday and guess what the pump's knackered trying not to be angry can't send it back I bought it months ago new one is on it's way on a positive note I did get to flush out the pipework and rack also got around to flushing all of the braking system through, refilling it and bleeding it and looking at what came out it needed doing it was very cloudy also got the location finalised for the charger
Are you allowed to use the car while waiting for their decision?Had the inspection by the Engineer sent by the DVLA took all of 5-10 minutes he took lots of pictures of all of the same stuff the dvla asked me for which I'd already given them asked me the same questions that they asked already I wonder how much that cost ? never mind I didn't pay for it
back to more waiting
Because it's been converted within their guidelines and meets their points system the only real debate is wether or not they let me register and tax it as electricAre you allowed to use the car while waiting for their decision?
As there are so few (if any) EV conversions in NI I'm very uncertain how my experience with the DVLA will go.
They're not stopping People from converting car's to electric it almost seems to be purely about the tax classI'd heard that too but wasn't sure what the situation was if you opened that can of worms.
