Z3 Coupe uglier than a bread van?

@petecossie quotes a description of the way BMW decided to produce the Z3 Coupe. It was an 'engineering' project to provide a stiffer body to improve performance, but without the expense of 'designing' a coupe. Just use the front of a Z3 roadster and stick a roof on the back end.
It was not a 'concept' or a 'design' both of which imply some sort of inherent integrity to the notion of the design brief. It was an engineering solution governed by cost . The result being an extremely effective increase in rigidity with concomitant enhancement of performance.
As I recall, the 'Breadvan' Ferrari had the 'van' back end added to improve the airflow when tearing down the Mulsanne Straight, but that's a racing car where performance is everything. A road car should be aesthetically pleasing as well.
There is, of course, a cheap way to improve the side view of the Z3 Coupe, just put a big sticker along the side. How about 'Warburton's' ???
OK, sorry Martin and Ian, I'll just go and hide before Stacey sends me a parcel bomb!=))
This is positively my last post on the Z3 Coupe. MARMITE!

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and for sure BMBabe, Martin, Ian & myself (plus a few others I'm sure) think Z3 M Coupes are the greatest thing since sliced bread!!! :scorecard:
