In 1998, the M52TU ("technical update") was released, adding variable valve timing to the exhaust camshaft (called dual VANOS by BMW). Other upgrades included electronic throttle control (which uses a throttle cable as backup),[1] a dual length intake manifold (called "DISA" by BMW) and revised cylinder liners

Had a visitor on Saturday to see if we can get one of the kits to fit the M52TU

@Disca came over and we fitted one of my kits to his car

it needed a bit of fettling to fit as there are a few changes to the M52TU engine bay

• Carbon canister moved
• radiator expansion pipe in the way (looks like z3M one will solve this)
• built in airduct behind the headlight reduces available space

so a quick trim of the pipe and a new style of bracket and its all done!

Yup we officially have an M52TU kit now and I am very much enjoying it!
Very subtle during everyday driving with a hint of rushing air whistle when you gently accelerate at low speeds, reminding you it is there.
Full bore at 4k+ with the roof down there is a very notable roar!

Looks nice, but you need some shielding around the air filter or you are just sucking in the hot air from under the bonnet.

Agreed during static traffic you would. The facelift air intake is particularly efficient with the scoop being installed and then a sealed pipe between the intake and the box so no hot air should really get in at all.
However I personally did it for the noise, haven't noticed any temperature issues either and the butt dyno is reporting normal speeds.
We were discussing heat shielding and trying to work out how you would make one and mount it for the future.

Did you keep the very low bass note at low RPMs? I do like it, a lot, it's almost infrasound, feels fantastic

Yeap low down bassy sound is still there as soon as you put it under load, maybe slightly more obvious than before. Then as the revs rise past 4k the roar begins and peaks around 5.5-6.5k

bit of a non issue on the cold side of the engine. even after a very spirited drive in the middle of the summer you can hold the stainless pipe and it isnt warm

but we are looking at how we can utilise some very cool thermal materials to make an effective shield for those who think they need it.

It's certainly an issue on the M. Over 65°C on the cold side and 80°C on the hot side.

after some great feedback from @buze i will be tweaking the kit a little

this is great as the community are helping to make this product better.

also looking at version 2 now which will be developed over the winter

Can you check the size of your MAF, if it's 80mm then this kit will fit
