All change at the top an Italian takes the yellow, but he'll have to get a bigger lead if he wants to keep it beyond the last time trial.Brave effort from Steve Cummings but he was asking to much it was a long hard climb to the finish. Meanwhile back at the ranch Sarah's sheep is tyred

Probably won't be able to see the tour for the next couple of days, off to Gloucestershire tomorrow to take part in a 'Hetchins' ride on Saturday. 32 miles, not much really, but when you haven't ridden a bike for years, it's a bit worrying. Then back for Beaulieu on Sunday. So if I can't walk or sit down that is my excuse.

Good luck .allez,allez,allez.

I've got an old Carlton Ten that has the fancy frame lugs. I've also got an old Peugeot Tourmalet too. The Carlton needs a complete renovation. The frame is rusty but can easily be saved. The wheels are good and true, as are the gears. Don't have the old Jones saddle anymore though.

The Tourmalet could do with a good clean but otherwise it's in decent condition. 20 odd years in the shed haven't helped

Are these old bikes worth anything these days?

Not many bikes are worth a fortune because they were made in such large Nos but a few hold their values well.sometimes you own it because you like the craftsmanship in building it and if it can be original spec.

My bike is not that old, 1989 I think. I have another with straight stays. The Americans do put them in cases on the wall, like a work of art. Some bikes are worth a lot of cash but it does depend on the marque

Hi Jack, I had no knowledge of the particular bikes you mention. I have researched both and unfortunately they both aren't worth a lot. The Carlton was one of their lower end mass produced racing bikes when Carlton were owned by Raleigh Industries. The Peugeot is a lungless frame that they favoured and not popular with enthusiasts. Both are listed on eBay in various condition.

Good to see Froome has regained the yellow jersey. However, I was very disappointed with the so called fans, who were booing him as he was trying to catch up with the group containing his nearest rivals after having suffered yet another mechanical.

I was hoping that you would put up a photo of the Hetchins. A classic and often had the 'wavy' forks. Because of the Eroica events a lot of people are buying older bikes/frames. Values ,like everything else, are based largely on rarity and condition, but old steel frames with quality tubing (Reynolds,Columbus etc) and fancy lugs are most popular.
My last steel race bike was this Colnago Master Olympic with full Campagnolo Record Groupset. It would still be worth a lot today.

That's a lovely machine. I take it you no longer have it. So far I have resisted selling any of mine. Got a shed full of them. Short list - Hetchins Magnum Opus deluxe Curley stays. Hetchins Magnum Opus straight. Brian Rourke 531 professional road bike. Brian Rourke 531 training bike. I have 3 of my sons bikes see pictures plus Maxine's Brian Rourke road bike. 2 Cube mountain bikes and a Dawes tandem. I shudder to think how much I have spent on bikes over the years! Should be driving an 'M'. I also include a picture of a flying gate that was on the Hetchins ride. Very strange!

But I get distracted by these all the time .This one was unique as the drive sprocket was mounted on the swing arm pivot so chain tension was constant took a bit of getting used to as it didn't squat under acceleration.a BMW design
