Toxicity charge... So all the nobs (posh) in the city with their brand new porsches pay less than the bloke in an old 2006 van scratching out a living doing God knows what... Toxic indeed.

There is zero chance that I would have driven in the congestion charge area before today. That hasn't changed this morning. I think both sides are happy.
Problems will come though when other cities start charging. Its likes of Birmingham where the main route through goes right through the city centre means that millions will be affected. There you have no choice if you go from one side of the city to the other.

Anyone who drives in to the centre of London likely needs a quiet chat with themselves. Did it on and off for 10 years before the traffic became a complete joke, and that was bad enough. Easiest to just avoid London altogether, it's a dump really.

When we had our Z3 , a few years later we decided to get a Z4 :p
We were driving everywhere to get the Z we wanted :)
At one time we were about 40 miles from where Alans dad live :)
So we decided to stay their the night but we would have to drive in London :(
It took us about 3 hours to drive the 40 miles :meh:
We both said it would of been better to go home ;)
As the time it took to go to Alans dad's we would of been home in less than 2 hours but we had about 130ish miles to do :)

My nearest city is Glasgow and the main motorway goes right through the centre of it. If they put a T charge there it would be chaos.

The only way to see London is to save up for a train ticket, find a day when they are running and then hire a Boris bike. :)

Also the main reason to do this is due to the horrible air quality in London and the overall impact it has on health and the NHS

i'm not really fussed and think they should be more strict about what an operate and where and then invest really heavily in cleaner public transport

anyone who drives through London for leisure is an idiot

but i understand and sympathise with the business elements

Last time I drove through London was1986. It was chaos then.I hate to think what it is like now.
If I need to go to London, which is very rarely, I fly.
Not sure the Airbus A320 is any less toxic than my old Z3. OK so there are a few more people on the A320.

Taxis are exempt. They all run on fresh air then?

As someone who sometimes has to work and carry heavy equipment in London I will just be passing this on to the client, who will in turn pass it on in raised prices and then everybody ends up paying. The biggest problem in London is that you get held at junctions more and more and idiots plan even more things to hold you up. When I can I park up at either Westfield or Richmond and get the underground in which has gone up too if you travel before 9.30am.. The joy of working in a capital that wants to milk you every way it can.

So yes, I have a newer vw diesel as I was told it was good for the environment ... hmmmm not... which ever way you turn they have you.

Just waiting for what this gov is going to do with the car tax before considering what to replace the vw with.

Whilst I agree that the air pollution needs cleaning up (in all big cities), I'm not sure that the answer is just to keep milking your average motorist. For me it's just another way if creating revenue as with most things regarding the motorist. Easy hit

This is an interesting read.

In the article an old petrol Golf is compared with a 2009 Skoda diesel. One thing that the article talks about is how unrealistic the NOx regulations are at the moment. Apparently the limit for NOx under the current Euro 5/6 regulations is 0.08 g/km. All diesels on sale today must pass this, and they do - in a lab test. But when tested in the real world, most produce many times that level, the worst being the Nissan Qashqai which averaged out at 18 times the limit.

VW got stung for cheating, but it seems that all manufacturers are doing it routinely. I don't think there is any future for the combustion engine in the next few decades. Enjoy them while you can!

Because they're now building houses on every small scrap of land. And,what does that create?

It will create a situation where people can't afford to work or go to work. The areas that they're trying to protect will stagnate and you will get ghost towns. Job done
