Correct. So basically disregard engine size and just proceed on the basis of whether you had standard or sports originally? *strokes non-existent beard*
Speaking of springs and shocks. About time you collected that set from meSurprised at that I thought with the 2.8 and 3.0 having heavier lumps up front the dampers and springs would be uprated to compensate.
any longer and you’ll need new seals. 3 years man.Yep will do soon back on the mainland on Saturday for quite a while.
Intuitively, you would think that wouldn't you. On reflection though, it makes good business sense to standardise as much as possible within certain tolerances. I believe M cars had cast iron blocks, which might explain their special treatmentSurprised at that I thought with the 2.8 and 3.0 having heavier lumps up front the dampers and springs would be uprated to compensate.
M44 also has a cast iron block. It's just the lesser non M 6 cylinders that have cast aluminium alloy blocks.I believe M cars had cast iron blocks, which might explain their special treatment
I think your on the money. I reckon that’s what they used to do but over the last 20 years they’ve standardise the parts list.Intuitively, you would think that wouldn't you. True. Aftermarket options I’m not sure about. They should come with spring and rebound rates. Most state model and engine variants but if you question it most don’t have a clue.Unbelievable!
Although I can’t help but wonder about the standardisation thing for replacement parts. Versus what originally left the factory.
So even the colour coding thing seems to be a red herring then. I wonder what that was all about?
And don’t some aftermarket suppliers perpetuate this with 4-cylinder and 6-cylinder lowering springs?
What does this mean? You’ve just listed part numbers for shocks...For what it may now be worth, this is the result of the analysis I did with Cotswold on 2.2/3.0 springs.

No they are all springs. What does this mean? You’ve just listed part numbers for shocks...
Sorry fingers and thumbs trampling each other. Best thing to do as you love a good spread sheet, contact BMW and see if they will give you more info. Try and avoid their sales pitch.
Just some advice. Do you have a plan B for the spring compression. These springs are a right pain in the arse. They nearly double in length when they’re not compressed. The issue I found is the highest and lower coil make contact with the seats and the logically next inner coils won’t compress enough if that makes any sense.Ordered everything I needed this week and will be fitting this weekend:

2x front springs and 2x front dampers (which altogether cost the same as one BMW damper!); upper and lower spring pads; and impact gun and sockets (not strictly necessary, but will prob make things easier/quicker and no doubt be useful in future)
Have ratchet straps arriving tomo morning which I’ll use in conjunction with spring compressors I’ve borrowed, because I don’t want to take any chances with that part of the process
