If your car was built with standard suspension and that’s what you want going forwards then don’t worry about what’s on there now. That will only confuse things.

Monroe Reflex and Sachs or KYB springs and job done :)
I just want to replace like for like. If that turns out to be non-Sport even better!:)

Rear left damper, non-Sport! Thank Crunchie for that, back to cheapo plan-A! Sachs/Monroe shocks and KYB springs. Means I might be able to do all four corners at once too

Righty ho then, looks like I can get Bilstein B3 front springs for £38.40 each from Demontweeks and a pair of Monroe Reflex front dampers for £140.52 from an eBay seller in Germany (linky here). So £217.32 altogether to replace both front springs and dampers.

Any thoughts Brain Trust? @mrscalex ?

I bought my last pair of Monroe Reflex from the same seller, at the same price and they arrived in about 2 days.

The Bilstein B3 springs I know little about. Although they appear to be a sensible match. And £40 for any decent spring is cheap money.

Perfect, cheers for that Rob, that's that settled then!

And yeah, similarly unsighted on B3s but Bilstein seem well regarded enough that I'm happy to take a punt at £40, which is only a few quid more than KYBs. They'd be from a UK seller as well so hopefully I'd have everything in time to sort at the weekend:)

Well done guys. I enjoyed reading this post, really helpful advice and a great outcome. I have been thinking about replacing my shocks and springs and bushes. I’ve got a 3L sport so that was the only part of the post that didn’t make good reading ££££££!

Glad you found it useful mate:)

You're own your own with the Sports bit though haha. From my understanding your options would be: spend big bucks for BMW parts if you want to keep the pukka 15mm drop; drop it another 15mm to 30mm by going aftermarket and save a lot of cash; revert to standard and save a bit more cash still

Just my ha'penny's worth on prices, when I changed my 2.2 Sport spring in 2017 it was just shy of £100 with forum discount from Sopers. I did do both sides as well:eek:.

Edit: Just looked and the bill was £191.76 for 2 Sport Springs and mounting pads.
I just rang Sopers and was quoted £270 for just the two front springs which included the forum discount :eek::eek:

I was quoted £141.56 inc. VAT by Cotswold BMW for 2 front Sport springs so £70.78 ea.

The rear springs apparently only come as a pair. And these were quoted at £184.86 inc. VAT for the pair.

Prices also include 15% discount on front springs and 7.5% on rear springs.

So I would give Ross Hands at Cotswold BMW (rosshands@cotswoldgroup.com) a shout before giving up. Tell him Robert 'the Z3 loom man' sends his regards :)

That's still a total of £326. Which is exactly twice the price you can pick up a set of Eibachs for. The trouble is the likes of you and me @DrWong are in the minority of wanting to keep things standard. Most people would be happy to lower their car and pay half the price!

Thanks Rob! Will definitely be giving Ross a call this afternoon and shall report back :)

Given the choice between paying £40-£50 for random 'OEM spec' springs (which lets be honest, could mean anything) or an extra £20 for legit BMW ones that I know are right for my particular car, I'd pay the extra £20 all day!

Emailed Ross and was quoted £132 per spring. He must really like you @mrscalex ! Possible there'd be more of a discount if getting the rears as well.

Anyways, I'm ordering KYBs for £41 each from Europerformance. They'll ping my order onto KYB UK who will then ship direct to me arriving tomorrow. Can't complain about that.

Not getting the Bilstein B3s because apparently they're not a thing anymore and were discontinued long ago. But some websites still list them (which is helpful :banghead:)

Ordered 2x Suplex front springs. I know nothing about them but they seem to be well regarded by Z4 owners on t'interwebz. Before ordering I rang Suplex in Sheffield with my reg to get a part number. The guy I spoke to was drilling down to options such as air con and heated seats, which was highly encouraging.

Similar springs cost £42.50 each from buycarparts.co.uk. I managed to find them for £49.86 a pair with free postage from a UK ebay seller (linky here) and they should be with me by Friday at the latest:)

Just to clarify chaps:

I did alot of research into this a couple of years ago setting up a supplier for the zedshed. The shocks are the same from 1.9-3.0 you then have a standard spring and sport spring. When you look at the cars individually you will see separate part numbers but a brief chat with BMW revealed this meant nothing other than a sales thing. (no differnece in load ratings no differnece in rebound etc)

I'd really like to understand this but I want to make sure I know what you mean.

Are you saying there is a non-Sport and Sport shock? And a non-Sport and Sport spring? But that's it? No difference between engine sizes? And no difference (as apparently exists according to part numbers) for air-con or no air-con?

And what about facelift v non-facelift?

Your halfway there. Only sport and non sport spring. All shocks are the same bar M. Air con facelift non facelift is irrelevant.
