Although I agree that a lot of speed cameras are revenue gathering tools ( the one I fell foul of is on a downhill dual carriageway where there has never been a traffic accident!) you can only blame yourself if you get caught, no one else.
Something that peeves me more than this is having to pay to park at hospitals as a visitor and even more so as a patient!

100% right Tony! When I was in hospital it cost Jue £7 a day for 2 months. It's f***ing appalling!:mad:

Agreed on all fronts Tony. I think that having to pay to park at hospitals is a shocker! Theft from the vulnerable

You were speeding.
Yup, how reckless from me. o_O

Anyway yes, you're absolutely right, the only way is not to speed, but I don't know about you, I cannot get crazy keeping track of all speed limits...especially in the above case I was sincerely convinced the limit was 50 kph, so in my good citizen mind I was not speeding, and in Belgium you have to check for your limit every time you turn around the corner.

I wish local administrations made roads safer and speed limits more consistent with the traffic, it would be much easier to drive.

100% Agree although IR technology has improved a lot over the recent years with the use of LEDs

Hmmm, not sure about this, how do you enchance an image which does not contain the information in the first place?
It depends on how the image is held. JPEGs it is difficult but, if you invert the image then apply some re-mapping of the levels (i.e. making it non-linear) you can stretch the shadow areas to get back some image detail.
If the image is RAW its an awful lot easier, but, I suspect to get small file sizes that they use a highly compressed JPEG file format.

The road by where I work is a 20mph zone. I spoke to a roads engineer and he said that such areas it has to be clearly identifiable that a 20mph limit is appropriate. i.e. narrow, parked cars etc.

This one is a very wide road (enough to have 4 cars side by side), houses down one side only for much of its length - nearly 3/4 mile. It happens to have a school down a side road, but thats not visible. At one end there's parked vans frequently obscuring the signs one side and a bus stop the other - you often cannot see the speed signs. There are no reminders anywhere.

Its possible for me to walk from town via paths that go nowhere near the road, into the office, pick up a hire car and venture out on to the road and not see a speed limit sign. How can that be legal a legal speed limit - all the indications are is its a 30mph limit.

Yet, police turn up regularly and nab unsuspecting people.

Wrong on every level mate. Its a controversial topic, we we're told AFTER I was released that if your staying in you can get free parking for as long as your in! Didn't saw owt while I was in! Knobs!:mad:

Oh that's ridiculous Pete. What the hell is the matter with these people! Jue paid over £500 in parking money while I was in. It's so wrong and what can we do about it? Sweet........!:mad:

They rely on people not asking Dave because it costs them too - because the parking at hospitals is farmed out to a third party, while they will give you free parking the parking provider usually still gets paid. If you do ask and you ask the right person, they will tell how what to do.
Most people who work in cities and towns have to pay parking - its not just hospitals. Places like Nottingham tax work car parking places.

Back to speed cameras...

Like many on here I have a dash cam but only in my Land Rover.
Last week it was in for a service and MoT.
Instead of following my instructions to check a few things including headlight alignment, they took the car straight for its MoT. It failed due to headlight alignment.
Among many gripes I've got about that experience, I decided to take a look at the video from the camera. They normally unplug it the first thing they do. Here's why.
On the video it shows the driver doing 40mph for some considerable distance in a 30mph zone, on a school day, and right by a school. There are several instances of the limit being broken by up to 10mph on the 5 minute journey.

So - what would you do?

And, just to cap it all I went to the pay station and put my ticket in, paid the £3.40 then drove around the exit to find the f***ing barrier in the open position. Needn't have paid anyway.

Tony.
Two words I think.
And then a short conversation with the sales manager who's just lost a sale.
It's not good.
