Sepsis

Thanks Gary he is stable and on a drip
How are you doing ?

Had a rough night to be honest. Sore ribs from coughing so much. I got up at 5am and went downstairs for an hour or so then went back to bed and slept like a baby. I'm just hoping these antibiotics start working a bit quicker. Thank you for asking

Yes lots of coughing does have that effect it sometimes takes aboutvthe first week beforevyou notice an improvement

Not good Garry, any idea how it came about? Still, as the coughing and pain eases you can enjoy relaxing and appreciate what really matters in life, your home, wife and watching lots of zed stuff :)

Most likely caught a chest infection on the flight back from Bahrain

Glad you got it diagnosed in time Gary, here's to a speedy recovery

Blimey Gary just caught up with this thread. It's not very good, take care of yourself and wishing you a speedy recovery. Hope Jill is looking after you;)

I got back from Bahrain a week ago, was feeling a bit lethargic and while I was sitting in the office I was struggling to get a good lung full of air. Then I developed a cough that made me feel like I was going to break my ribs every time I coughed. It got progressively worse as the week went by. I spent Saturday and Sunday in bed, sweating and coughing. I messaged my work to tell them I wouldn't be in this week as I haven't felt as ill as this, … ever.
I've always enjoyed good health and haven't had any sick leave for 12 years (confirmed today by the doc)
Went to see the doctor today and apparently I was just in time to prevent me probably never having to worry about anything ever again
I've got fluid on my left lung, my blood pressure is low, my body temperature is high and my pulse rate is high.
What started out as a chest infection has developed into Sepsis but luckily for me we've caught it before it can do me some serious damage. I've been prescribed strong antibiotics and doc says it should clear in a week.
When I got home from the doctors I've searched online and it's scared me sh**less.
I'm still quite lethargic, mainly because I haven't eaten,(my last proper meal was last Wednesday, I've only had a few slices of toast since) but I'm taking plenty of fluids, and as I've got an extra bit of padding the doctor said he's not too concerned about my lack of appetite, I reckon the way I'm going I could drop a stone this week.
Hi buddy just saw this ,look after yourself so glad you caught it early just goes to show not to ignore stuff .i know Jill willl keep your pecker up ;)

Update ……
Been off work for 2 weeks now, I was really poorly last week but the strong antibiotics sorted me out or so I thought. I went back to see my GP on Monday and he checked me over and did some blood tests. I had a phone call on Wednesday to say there were some abnormal readings related to my liver and they made me an appointment to see another Doctor on Friday, 2 days ago.
I kept the appointment as agreed but was referred to a specialist GP at the same time. He came into the office with a copy of my blood results and he told me that he'd made me an appointment at Treliske Hospital in a couple of hours time at the Acute Medical Unit. 'kin 'ell mate what have you found? Squeeky bum time!!!!!!
Anyway got to hospital with a letter off the Doc, bypassed all the queues and was straight in, stripped off and had an immediate ECG scan, a chest Xray and some more blood tests. They told me that they were processing my blood test there and then and I'd have a diagnosis in a couple of hours, and that they had reserved me a bed on the AMU ward.
Over the next couple of hours I was seen by three hospital docs.
Fast forward to 1am yesterday morning a lady doc, who said she was a consultant came to see me for a chat.
She said they had looked at my latest blood results together with the ones earlier in the week and had come to the conclusion that I'd had a bout of Pneumonia that I had successfully fought off. It was the remnants of the infection that was fighting with my body and the antibiotics which had raised my liver enzymes, in particular the feretones (iron). These were extremely high but everything else was coming back into line. She said my general health was good, my heart was strong, my lungs were now clear and that I will make a full recovery. She told me to rest for another couple of weeks before I even think about going back to work. She apologised for the rather dramatic way I was admitted, but I told her not to apologise because I'm just glad I've been told what's wrong with me.
I'm home now, still feeling weak but a lot happier. I'll phone the office tomorrow to tell them not to expect to see me this month.
I'll most likely be on here all day and everyday now for a while.
I fitted a new DAB radio in the silver zed last Wednesday and put the finishing touches to it today. It's working OK but I may have to do something with my speakers, but on the other hand, I only listen to Talksport or BBC5live so it's not a priority.

It may of been a hell of a scare but at least the outcome was what everyone would hope it to be. Here's to a quick recovery Gary

Crikey Gary you don't do things by halves :wideyed:.
Pleased to see you've about fought off the worst of it.

On the plus side, I've dropped over a stone, around 17lbs

Good news in the end mate. Get well rested though. Hope you're feeling much better soon.

Tony.

Something I missed out of my summary.... the lady consultant told that there are a number of scary illnesses which give abnormally high iron results and they had to act quickly "just in case" !
Makes me glad I just had a bit of pneumonia.
A lot of people knock our NHS but I don't think I could have been treated any better if I'd been royalty.

My daughter ended up in the Acute unit after a bout of glandular fever was un-diagnosed for 2 weeks. Fortunately we didn't really understand how ill she was until she had started to get better.

But I was sh*tting myself anyway due to the amount of attention she was getting. Very scary.

Gary, I would never knock our health service after everything they have done for me. It was my liver that took the hit when I was ill. They gave me 24 hours at the darkest point but made the turn just in time. Take as much time as you need to get back to full health mate.

Blimey Gary, you have been in the wars. Pleased to hear you seem to be over the worst. Don't rush back to work, see if you can stretch it to the New Year:whistle:

Makes you wonder what would have happened if you'd not been so fit. Would it be attributable to air con in planes, or apparantly they don't always run it. Glad they got to the bottom of it and the scary bit is over. Zed playtime then! Happy with the engine work you did on the black auto?

Hope your girl is well now Rob, somehow it's a lot worse when it's a loved one rather than yourself.
