Sean d progress thread

I put it into something that she sees several times a day but has no reason to open or put it in one of her drawers in a dresser she seldom goes into or the huge flour or sugar bag that all women have to buy, just keep an eye on the other containers if they're getting low or........ man it's so easy kind of takes the fun out of it!! Then every once in a while buy her something she knows you haven't got the $$$ for and watch the reaction!! Priceless!! JIM
 
I had £300 put aside for some of it but the wife nobbled it to pay off the holiday :mad: just building it up again.

I feel your pain Sean my wife has this habit of doing it every time so just learnt just to go ahead and watch the sulks only so much crockery in the cupboard :eek:

@Sean d did you lacquer the engine bay? They weren't lacquered from the factory were they? Also interested to know if you or anyone else knows if that unlacquered finish in a factory engine bay uses metallic or flat paint? Above to have a go myself.

And how far down did you go? It must be impossible to reach the chassis rail on both sides from memory?
 
Not much mate,
Paint N/S inner wing,
Paint underside of bonnet
Paint underside of boot
Fit new discs and pads all round
Fit new handbrake cables and shoes
Full front end service, (water pump, pulleys and belt)
Oil change and plugs
VANOS seals
Wishbones,
Diff mount

Factory finish is a flat colour with a light coat of something, not quite sure what, yes it is lacquered and I manager to get down to the chassis rails. I used a mini gun on the narrowest setting which is a squirt rather then a fan.

Yep, and its dead easy mate and could be done at home, rattle can galv paint goes straight on to bare metal, I took it to bits and degreased it, gave it a quick rub down and sprayed it, the beauty about the galv paint is that it dries almost instantly as its a very thin coat but covers really well, it only took 30 from start to finish.

Now that a attention to detail. Makes all the difference with the overall results.
 
do you think sean would notice if i parked my zed there for a few weeks:) when @Nodzed looked in my engine bay he started twitching and said OMG give it clean.

You might find that when you come back your sound system will have gone astray, however you might get some shiny nuts
 
Today was the big day that my appeasement to the service gods has began, I changed the plugs and the annoying misfire has gone, also got 2 calipers stripped and etch primed ready to be painted and will be fitting new drilled and grooved discs with Mintex pads next week.

I'm also repainting my M bumper, Its been bloody painful as the original paint was very poor and unstable, I tried to short cut it which worked until I inadvertently put an infra red heater on it when I painted the engine bay, the original paint on the bumper shifted and caused cracks through all the coats on top of it (and there was a lot) so the only way was to strip it back to plastic, unfortunately you can't use chemicals due to the plastic so it had to be sanded off and it has taken hours, this exposes all previous damage so that needs dealing with as well, its now in primer and will soon be painted, here it is well on its way, the white stuff is filler on the damage, if I wasn't a panel beater this would not be a feasible project as it has taken a good 8 hours so far and at least another 3 to go, wish I had bought a new one
