The car has been off the road for the last month or so as I've finally fitted a new stereo. Normally, most people just do the head unit, but I decided to do the whole lot! I wanted a head unit that could play CDs, DAB, bluetooth/spotify, radio, and auxilary input. I needed an amp to power new speakers and it also needed a sub. I decided to go with a pioneer low profile active type and fit it in the passenger footwell.
Here's the pile of parts!
I then needed to remove nearly all the interior.......groan. I hate having to do anything with interior, it's always such a pain!
I mianged to get hold of some rear door 3/4 trim with the larger speaker fitments. These still needed modifying to fit in the alpine speakers. I wanted it to look as stock as possible without them protruding too far.
The footwell speakers went straight in with no modification. The only pain was trying to find a place to mount the crossovers. I ended up just mounting them below the dash board. The big blue cable is the 4 way RCA back to the amp in the boot.
I ended up running all the speaker and power cables next to the other looms under the carpets next tot he doors. These also fed in to the boot via the holes in the rear bulkhead with the other looms.
Positioning of the sub.
Rear speakers installed and actually almost look standard.
I mocked everything up in the boot and mounted the amp in the original tray for what I presume is the amp on models with uprated stereos. This alpine one didn't quite fit so I ended up chopping up the original mounting to get it to fit. I obviously tidied up all the wiring and zip tied it along the top back of the boot.
As you can see, I needed to open up the carpeting a little to fit the amp. I'm not sure what I'll do with this, although I'll probably leave it....my car is no where near standard any more!

All back in and not looking too bad!
Out on the drive ready for a spin. In the background is my new winter hack as driving the zed last winter was not ideal!
