Good morning @Shelly
I’ve asked Chris as to if he knows any indy mechanic close to where you are and I’m afraid the answer is no. He has said you need a diagnostic done on your beautiful Z to determine what needs to be done as it could be a simple problem or something more complex. I’d suggest you ask here if any member can do a diagnostic using a scanner on your Z. It is, after all, what the spirit of this forum is about: to help each of us In times such as this.

So, gals and guys! Can any of you fine Zedders help with doing a diagnostic scan - or any other method to test - on @Shelly ‘s Z, please? I’m certain a bacon butty or two will be waiting for you 😀

We were thinking that too …..
Maybe I should get a different Z
And say Bye Bye to Snow White 😢
You won’t get much for Snow White in this current condition @Shelly What you really do need is some kind member or members to have a look at Snow sh*** to find out what the problem is.

The timing chain has broken on Snow White 🥲
On Friday we’re going over to Bungay to a place called GC Motorworks and have a talk with them , they have given us a price already.
So hopefully next week my Z will be over there being fixed , fingers crossed 🙂

You know for definite it’s the timing chain?
Fingers crossed for Friday’s meeting, @Shelly and hoping something positive comes of it.

I keep asking myself that too. Having read this thread more than once I don't see any mention of anyone actually lifting the cover and confirming that. The only symptom from the garage that's had the car all this time is that "It's only firing on three". I assure you, if the chain was "broken" it would not be firing on three. It would be firing on zero and the engine would not be worth saving.

Or, by 'broken' do they mean that it's skipped a tooth. I don't know enough about this particular engine to know if it could spin without valve damage if the chain had merely skipped a tooth. Teeth on a cam belt are quite small. Teeth on a chain are humongous so just skipping one tooth is a big step in cam timing.

After all that though - to me it sounds like the garage is just too busy doing exhausts, brakes and other quick turn-round jobs and hadn't looked at the car at all and had just diagnosed it via via google or potentially even made up a BS story to placate the owner hoping they'd take it away.

Personally I can't blame a garage concentrating on the easy low hanging fruit. They have mouths to feed just like the rest of us. The last thing they want is valuable workshop space tied up with a long job waiting for parts. But they should have told shelly that long ago rather than leaving her hanging on.

Agreed on all points.

I haven’t read that anyone has done any diagnostic on @Shelly ‘s Z or lifted anything under the bonnet to determine what the problem is.
@Shelly - this garage you’ve been going to for 30 years has not treated you well for your decades of loyalty to it. You deserve to find a garage that puts the customer at the heart of its operation and, sadly, this one has spectacularly failed you. Please find another for future work.

We’re just going on what we’re been told from our “ local “ garage 🥲
But hopefully Bungay can help sort my Z out 😄

Yes I mean skipped a tooth 😖
I really wish 12 weeks ago I was told , I’m sorry Shelly we don’t do things like this
At the time I’m might of thought really
But waiting all this time is getting beyond a joke
I wish he would of been honest at the very beginning
But never mind , I might have my Z on the road , very soon 😀

12 weeks of no Z has been very hard
How can it possibly be 12 weeks and still no sign of anything happening? Seems like this place are trying to emulate the "dodgy garage" stuff you used to see on TV, a completely incompetent bunch of idiots taking the pi55.

And I've met many an incompetent idiot in my time in the fixing-motors trade.
