It wasn't anything dangerous. In fact, quite the opposite. Cut and taped wires inside the trunking. Wires cut short inside junction boxes and the wires inside the circuit box are now too short to reach the terminals :ymdevil: . It needs a complete rewire - just like I spent the first week doing.

If that’s how he left it for you then fair enough. I get the feeling he has plans for it, a 40% increase on what was a guaranteed income is stupid so his loss.

I'm busy with the electrics at the moment. Trying to do stuff with COVID restrictions and a three-to-five day delay on every request for spares is not making for an easy life. BBC Weather is now one of my most frequently viewed website!!
 
Awesome and great to see you rerouting.

The dash is one thing I might do in the future on my conversion. Yours looks excellent!
 
Those round vents look more up keeping with the retro look and takes anything from looking like a Z3. Looking forward to your next update.
 
Dashboard has been finished for a few weeks now...


but I noticed that the fuel gauge doesn't have a warning light.

I stripped down the Z3 intrument cluster to see if I could reverse-engineer the warning light...


Unfortunately, the tracks disappear under the connectors, so I couldn't follow them without destroying the circuit board.

It's not the end of the story, as I think I've found a way to make a warning light, so watch this space for more details 🤓 .

Love it, great stuff Gary, I used to be into this sort of stuff before the days of ICs. Did you not think about using a couple of transistors to do the invertion instead of a relay, less to go wrong;) . It would only need something light current if it's only driving an LED, a BC109 or similar should do.

The LM2901A has 4 channels. I will have a go at using one of the spare for this...


0v, 12v out and 12v in, 0v out. The only problem is that it is proportional (i.e. 11.9v in, 0.1v out and 9v in, 3v out, etc.)

Nothing ventured :)

I started her and managed to move her to her new home. On the tilty ramp I got from @Nodzed . I should get some more work done this week. Mon, Tue and Wed are supposed to be sunny☀. I can't do much over the weekend, as I need to keep recovering her every time I get a call out.

I made the module for the fuel warning light, but the stuff that I used to seal it gunged up the potentiometer screw, so I had to scrap that one. The new module is not working, but I'll persevere as it works on the bread board.
 
Module has been made and is working (detais to follow). I just need to find a way of insulating it. I tried epoxy, but it leached into the potentiometer. I'm trying varnish now, and may just dip it in epoxy, rather than resting it in the stuff.

Thanks for that. It's exactly what I want. On eBay, there are cheaper conformal coatings, but they need UV light to cure. The one you showed me is available from RS components for £4.81 (collected). I've ordered a bottle and it will be in store the day after tomorrow.
