Also helps with the insurance: Is it modified ? well for a tribute 507 no (whatever you have done), for a z3 yes...

DVLA - Don’t Volunteer Little Amendments.

don’t mention the cars longer! They will probably come and inspect it thinking you have cut the chassis and extended it.
just give minimal information. Basically on their form it asks what is used for engine, gearbox and axles, you reply it’s all factory Fitted components
My car does not show the engine number on the V5 and I don’t intend telling them in case they decide to want details from the German factory.
Keep it simple
I just looked in my z's v5. Length/width is not even recorded.🤷‍♂️ Wierd.

In that case I won't bother telling dvla anything at all. I don't mind keeping a Z3 badge on the back anyway.

Not sure I'd want to risk keeping stuff from the insurer. I'll do an online chat with my insurance broker. He charges enough. His fee is usually more than the actual premium.

It's not technically keeping stuff from the insurer, as you are now insuring a tribute rather than a z3 then it's down to what is "stock"

I think they like the correct name as it helps identify the car. I can send copies of the letter to you when you get to that stage as it’s very simple to amend. It helps when you sell too as buyers know it’s Dvla approved

I'm finding that, in fact I've got a spare z3 which is not getting much attention either. I guess at the moment many people aren't looking at second cars, etc

I got good money for wide rear wings and front quarter wings. Scrapped bonnet and boot, but sold boot light and bonnet grilles ok.

Oh. Talking of grills. The front grills on your 507. Are they made by tribute or are the from some other car/model?

They are Tribute and GRP with stainless inserts.
I had them painted with Hydrochrome which should be like the real thing, but the supplier didn’t clear coat and seal them properly.
I have found a new chap who will do them properly, and at a far better price, so they will be redone in a few weeks time

@Duncodin and @Dxbolton - don't you think this discussion about 507s would be better on a 507 thread?

If you get an answer to a question, it will be next to impossible to find in the future. Why would you look at Pingu's build thread to find out if the 507 has a chrome grille?

Maybe edit title to include 507.
most answers are on my build thread already

My LHR wheel has a bad camber, so I've started to do something about it. I suspect the camber was affected by the crash that wrote the car off. The rear beam has a very slight bend in it, but the camber should be able to be sorted using offset rear arm bushes (33 32 9 058 822). I got a set from BMW for £32.92, but not before I wasted £50 chasing a bargain =)) .

It's constantly raining here, but there will be a video to show what I've done so far and what I plan to do.

I've spent £85 on a proper hub puller, and the driveshaft is now off. I was hoping to save the bearing, but it is kapput (just). I might have saved it if I hadn't been so brutal with the sledge hammer in the failed attempts to remove the driveshaft.

The top tip from me for getting the driveshaft out is to push the shaft until you can get no further, then use the hub nut to pull it back, and keep doing this. It was absolutely solid until I pulled it back using the hub nut, then a 300Nm impact wrench was enough to push the shaft through the hub.

I've measured the camber.

It is 1.5º on the good side and 3º on the bad side. There is a video to look forward to, but you'll have to wait until the repair is complete before the premiere at Leicester Square Forest East.

The rear arm is off, and I will have a go at changing the bushes if the rain holds off.

It's not looking good.

I changed the bushes, and it made no difference that I could measure.

I will put the springs and tyres back on the car to have a proper look, but I think the only solution will involve removing the rear beam.

A busy day today...

LHR suspension stripped and removed.

RHR driveshaft is seized into the hub, as is the handbrake cable. Driveshaft has been strapped to the swing arm, and the handbrake cable restricts the complete removal of the swing arm. RHR swing arm will unbolted and rested on blocks of wood.

Rear exhaust removed.

Diff removed.

Bolts of death removed.

All that's left to do is to remove the rear beam, but I'll wait until the new one arrives before I do that.

Busy morning indeed, so you managed to locate another ///M beam?
No, I'll be looking at what is required to modify a standard one.

The standard beam is fitted to all the Z3s and E36 3 series is the same, except the Ms. Interestingly (well to me at least), the E36 M3 has a completely different rear end (similar to the E46).

I'm hoping that the ZM is just a beefed up version that some additional strength will sort.
