Wow! that is bad - when you took the sills off were the drainage slots clear as that looks as if it has been swimming in water for some time.

This was mine after ~12 years

Don't feel too down though, that bit of welding is a straight forward job for a welder / fabricator. It's great that you can replace the bad bits with bone fide bits from a doner Zed and will be well worth the effort and expense once you are driving her again.
There are plenty of mobile welders who will come to you too.
Best of luck mate
Yeah I have somebody to do the job already, I know plenty of people that can get the job done :)

I'm taking the panels to get blasted tomorrow, so I'll know th extent of how bad the rust is on them and if there repairable or not. Wish me luck!!!

Whenever you have something bead/sand blasted you have to get a coat of some sort of paint on straight away because they will start to corroded again instantly.

Well done @Brian H . Interesting to see what's behind the sill in that last photo. Presume those circular items are rubber bungs accessed from the footwell. I've squirted Waxoyl in through the front one before but didn't know about the others. Thanks - see you finished in time to watch the match ;)

You truly are a gent Brian, drilling out all those spot welds wasn't easy, I know! Good on you mate. If the Blyton track day comes off and you go I will do my best to meet up with you. It's only about 12 miles or so from our house.

Tony.

Yes the bungs are accessible from the inside of the car, with the carpet pulled back there are a couple more further along too.

Well, it looks like im going to be getting The genuine sills from BMW, thanks to @Stormy_be for the info regarding fiberglass panels. however I have chosen that it will be best in the long run and I really want to keep my zed all original! I really hope it all comes together and I can get my zed on the road again!!

re Bead blasting the panels: the rear quarters look okay (a couple of holes on the edges) and my girlfriends dad says he can fill in whats been eaten away by rust. the front quarters are a little worse off but are also fixable, so hes doing them for me. hes also going to be doing the welding on the chassis. so im hoping that its complete within the next couple of weeks!

I reckon this will increase the value by quite a bit after ive done this, would be interesting to see what you all think its worth. but ill leave that for another thread!! ... im not planning on selling it dont worry!! hah

I will post loads of pictures throughout the process!

I am also doing this job, not because of rust but gravel rash on the rear wings and sills. The removed sills are a bit rusty on the inner surface and Sopers of Lincoln are doing a very good deal on the replacements. The only drawback is that I have to collect them as they do not ship body panels.
