#ZedShed Oldguysrule Facelift -1999 2.8TU Full refresh

I think that’s an illusion mate, it will appear higher without the hoops. Look how far back the seats are leaning.

I can see it now. The hump itself is higher.

Another quick update before the final push this weekend. Had a lot of snagging today deal with. Seized brake fitting, some heat free’ed that off. I had a snapped exhaust bolt, drill and punched that out. Also another snapped bolt on the swing arm.

Next we fitted the shinny new tank straps. The fit of these is so good. Really nice part.

Next I finished the front end fitting a freshly powder coated roll bar. And loosely fitting the belly brace, I still need to refit the exhaust yet.

Dad then got all oldschool on me and wanted to clean the underside then seal it in with clear waxoil, it’s a clear finish and so messy.

To make our life easier we dropped the prop shaft and gave it a clean.

So this weekend it’s the final push to get everything back together. The only outstanding item is the interior.

Great job Lee, and you're right the Waxoyl stinks, it hangs in the air and clogs your nose but, it is good stuff. Dad has good taste!

Tony.

I couldn't comment Roy.=))=))

Sounds delightful!
but being clear is a good thing so you can see if it start to rust again I guess.
Not pretty but functional?

Best you stay out of it Tony he’s a big southerner, even if a bit old school. I rust proof all my cars by not driving them in the wet.

This pic shows I got lost on @billz tour, did get the underside a wash which really doesn’t harm a Z every 12yrs or so. See why @Oldguysrule uses it, helps him stop crying when he goes on (northern :wacky: )tour.

RHA,ROY =))
( love those northern boys really:spam:)

So today we didn’t get as much done but still good progress. Started off rebuilding both swing arms. New bearings, pressing in the hubs and getting the drive shafts back in. One wouldn’t fit so I had to spend half hour cleaning the splines.

We also noticed 4 popped spot welds in the boot. I checked the cross beam and diff hanger, there was no movement so I cleaned up the holes with a die grinder and gave it a little plug weld. Bit rusty welding but was functional. Quick spray of hammerite to seal it all in.

With bloody waxoil everywhere it was like juggling a greasy pig trying to put the subframe back in. Was made so much easier with the prop out.

While we were fitting the subframe we sent security to get some drinks and a new set painted wheels compliments of Spursfaninarenault.

Also got some swing arms from Andy to make the subframe swap process quicker. These are going to take some serious cleaning up.

You might think that but secretly he’s crying, he gave me control over his finances for this build. Wait till he sees the costs =))
