#ZedShed Oldguysrule Facelift -1999 2.8TU Full refresh

You will have to take the swinging arm off to press the bearing out of the housing Dave. You may need to press the driveshaft out of the hub too, meaning unbolting it off the Diff. I’ve not done a Z3 one but have done several E30 ones and they were all impossible to get the shaft out of the hub without a press.

Tony.

Sorry to be a pain Tony but you don’t actually need a press at all. You might do if anything gets stuck. Me n Gaz made up a little tool using an M12 bit of studding with some 5mm stainless discs. We remove and replace the bearings and hubs around 10min a side in situe.

I haven't used anything like that mate, but I have seen such kits for VW Transporters etc. If they're free enough then that's a big time saving.

Tony.

ps. Be nice to see that in operation next time if you have time to take some pictures.

I have so many photos it’s a tough job which ones to choose. Here’s a couple from the test fit on the bench. The metal discs are bespoke to the hub and bearing sizes. 5mm laser cut stainless.

First photo shows the hub already off and the bearing half out. The second photo shows the tool. We use two 19mm spanners, it’s tough but manageable without big toys.

So today in this humidity we manage to finish the mechanical element of the build. Everything went smoothly.

Tomorrow is a day of reassembling the interior. We’re also waiting on a brushed Ali centre console to break up all the red.

Exciting seeing the wheels on :D

Brilliant work as always Lee:thumbsup:looking good

That’s a nice job on the interior and quick turnaround!

Love the interior colours and that speedo binnacle looks real good. It's looking like it's gonna be one to look out for.
Hope Trevor has deep pockets.

Roy.

Spent some more time doing the finer details. We assembled and fitted the dash. The black contrast really breaks the red up.

Worth noting you fit the airbag first whilst fitting the dash because it won’t lift over it.

We then waited for the sport centre console sections to arrive. This was to further break up all the red interior. While we were fitting the centre console we relocated the roof switch to the front. Note there’s enough slack in the loom to do this. We then had to extend the ASC button wiring to reach the rear. We also added two USB sockets at the rear which piggy backed the cig socket power.

We’re now just waiting on the seats to come back which should be tomorrow. Then it’s test drive and get the tracking done. I wonder what the value would be now after all this work.

Loving that red and black interior, this is how it should come OEM. Can’t wait to see the seats in.
Great thinking with the USB sockets will be real handy.
When can you start on the coupe.lol
Roy.;)

Today we got the seats. Finally after a month it’s all back together. First we had to solder the old connectors onto the new carbon fibre heated seat pads. Luckily didn’t take long. We also had a helper today In the shed.

So we had the black leather added to the binnacle and airbag cover then the rest treated and sealed. We also changed the centre console from Red to the Brushed Aluminium. Then the seat bases were steamed and thickened up. We also removed the old heated seat pads and fitted some more modern carbon Fibre pads.

So with wheels down next was a test drive. No lights on the dash other than a low fuel light. See how high the car sits before everything settles.

First snagging issue was a catching dust shield at the rear and spongy brakes. So back to the shed for a quick bleed and to straighten the shield.

2nd test drive we noticed the fuel light on (Full tank) and no speedo, at this point it was time to call it a day before my boss got angry. So tomorrow we’ll have a look, we’re thinking a connection is missing on the back of the cluster. Other that that she drives so nice. Dad is well cuffed.
