Anyway, sport switch mod type 2. I removed the screw head and cleaned the switch then found a 5mm ball bearing in my GYOTS box. Using a piece of similar thickness plastic I test drilled to find a size which would let the ball sit right but without passing through. 4.5mm seemed OK I just countersunk with a 7mm bit in my fingers.

Much easier to find looking through your finger tips.

Tony.
Wasn't it The Two Ronnies that had the sketch about having an eyeball on the end of your finger ? So you could . . . Look around corners ! (See 'sport' buttons). No ? Just me ? I'll get my coat . . . .

Gremlins appear when you least expect it. On Sunday evening I experienced one such as I parked at the Mandarin at Saxilby. The roof on my car raised, up to the part where the rear part closed. Pressed the button on the remote again and it finished the cycle. It happened again on Monday so after getting the Eos polished today I started looking into the Z4 roof.
Started with reading the codes. Some, possibly all obviously historic.

I cleared all the codes and went for a run round the road test loop. Re read the codes and nothing, as yet, has returned. The rear lights faults, I have receipts for 2 new rear light units. The radio fault, I have used the "hands free" with no issues (mic working fine). A/C is arctic so I'm guessing it was repaired too. Only possible one causing issue would be the "soft top module" CTM.
I've removed the module I bought when in the States because I hadn't managed to get it coded to the requirements I wanted, so it's back to "factory" for now. Hopefully a quick refit and "talk" to it this on Saturday.

Tony.

Got any Salmon? . . Sorted.
Ebenezer Goode. Oh well.

Today's job entailed me swapping the 2 Salmon coloured relays which, in part, control the operation of the folding roof. I recently discovered that these can expire without warning, creating a big headache. So I ordered a pair from Mark at Sopers and collected them yesterday afternoon as I had no knowledge of these having been replaced previously. Just over £30 the pair with forum discount. I found Mark at desk at in the showroom marked "Temporary Parts Counter"

The Eagle eyed amongst you might spot something wrong with one of them.
After lunch today I set about changing them. All you need are, a 10mm socket or spanner to remove the Negative battery lead terminal and aT25 torx bit to remove the screw holding the relay mounting bracket.
20220701_145355.jpg

Next remove the sound supression cover from the pump.
20220701_150211.jpg

Then you can see the 2 relays and the screw which holds them in place.
20220701_150117.jpg

Having removed the screw and lifted the relays up I used the Sharpie to mark these as the "old" relays so I wouldn't put them back by mistake. After changing the relays, refit the bracket and screw.

20220701_150117.jpg

By the way, when I remove a battery lead I wrap the terminal in a cloth and stuff it back next to the battery to keep it from accidentally contacting the Negative post.
20220701_150229.jpg

Then replace the sound covering over the pump,
20220701_150211.jpg

and my extending wheel brace.
20220701_150507.jpg

After reconnecting the battery lead put the floor panel back.

Job done.

When these 4 bulbs arrived I decided to get them fitted even though I'm still having roof gremlins.
20220711_151546.jpg

In a previous post it said they were Golf footwell lights but that was a red herring.
To fit them you need to remove the interior light housing complete to access the 3 bulb holders on the top.
20220711_151646.jpg

2 of these for the 2 outer map reading lights, and one red one for the cabin light.

The red centre one fitted.

And the 2 outer white ones.

At dark from outside.
20220714_222111.jpg

And from inside.
20220714_222136.jpg

Just need one with the interior off and map lights on.
20220713_214415.jpg

That's the best I have for now.
Tony.

It turned out to be the micro switch(es) on the rear deck Alex. Someone suggested through their own experience that it could be this, and as it is someone who's knowledge I have come to respect I went with that. 2 new switches from Sopers were under £30 so it made sense to replace both. I'm going to hook the module up to my PC tonight and try to see if any of the settings remain. The open/close via the key in the door which Keith kindly coded for me at Thoresby last year seems to have been erased possibly by me resetting the roof module with my Foxwell tool. I may change the switch on the O/S of the windscreen rail because apparently this can reduce the"slam" of the roof when closing.

Well folks here we go again. No it's not a mistake, it's a new start. That rare Sterling Grey Z4 is going to a new home.
A new start from this Tuesday when me and Shirl went to collect "The Saint" from Wisbech, Cambs.
A few pictures.

Indeed, we have both ends of the spectrum now Pete, white and Black. Two of the worst colours for keeping clean.

I suppose he is useful for some things =)) you must be one of the lucky ones he still gets on with for him to offer over his advice. Glad you got it fixed.

And now, because the roof system is working as it should and I received my Smart Top module back from the makers in Las Vegas I proceeded to programme it to do what I wanted on my PC this afternoon. Then fitted it back in the boot (which now I only have to whistle and it does it);)
It finally works too.

3 clicks on the remote to raise/lower the roof, 2 clicks to raise/lower all the windows and 1 touch operation on the dash buttons

It's also programmed to raise/lower at up to 13 mph too.

I thought raise/lower was good up to 20 mph ? I think its actually 22/23mph, but 20mph is reliable. But glad you're all sorted . . .
