My Z4 ........................... My Way (Part 2).

Trim in boot refitted but left the USB lead for the module accessible because I think more coding may be needed.

Looking good Tony, mines only had a quick wipe after its exploits yesterday in mucky Derbyshire
 
This week has seen a couple or three additions/changes to my Z4. First one was painting and fitting a lip spoiler on the boot lid. Having got it painted and "cooked" in the house over night it was out to the Shed on Tuesday to get it fitted.

The blue tape is used to position the spoiler for fitting to the boot lid. With it fixed like this you lift one end and start to peel the backing from one of the double sided tapes, then press the blue tape back down and continue to pull the backing off the tape. Pressing it down to the boot lid as you move along.

When you get to the other end, simply lift the blue tape and start to peel the backing from the other adhesive tape.

Work your way along peeling the backing and pressing the spoiler down on to the boot lid .

Until you get to the end and you have the spoiler completely adhered to the lid.

The next job was to remove the rear parts of the roll hoop covers and paint those. I had a "satin" finish aerosol made up in Lincoln to try and match the red leather interior (Hmmm?)
These quite easily come off using plastic trim tools, are held together by 8 ball and socket fittings, (when you refit these some lubrication on the ball pins makes them clip back together so easily).

The last job, of today was fitting some 12mm hub centric wheel spacers on the rear. These really fill the arches, I don't think I will put any on the front but, .......... ).

Always use some anti seize on the hub centres.

Do you think 12mm is as wide as should go on the rears of the E89 Tony?
 
I measured that using a spirit level and a straight edge mate. I don't think I would want any more with the tyres I have.

I ask as John who had the Sterling 2.2 now has E89 your cars twin well it was a twin at birth! He had 12 front and 15 at back spaces same as mine so may put the 12 on the back and leave the 15's on the shelf.
 
It's only taken me 9 months to ask for some forum Decals, so now I have them.

The all important "Sport" button in my Z3 and to a lesser extent in my E85 Z4 was in a position which was easily found by your finger tip. In my E89 however, I find it not easy to locate without thinking about it. The smooth sides of the switch seem to need a locator for your finger tip. A temporary measure was fitted yesterday. I cut the head off a small screw and flatted the back and added double sided tape.

And applied it to the "Sport on" side of the switch.

After trying it today I'm very pleased, a small mod makes a big difference.

Anyway, sport switch mod type 2. I removed the screw head and cleaned the switch then found a 5mm ball bearing in my GYOTS box. Using a piece of similar thickness plastic I test drilled to find a size which would let the ball sit right but without passing through. 4.5mm seemed OK I just countersunk with a 7mm bit in my fingers.
