The kit I bought was a machined plate to attach the m52 throttle body to the m50 manifold, asc unit and throttle body bored to 68mm and 2 machined adapters to bolt the fuel rail to the manifold.

The adapters need to be a certain thickness so that the injectors sit at the correct height.

The manfold adds torque up the rev range allowing the car to pull all the way to redline, whilst the TB improves responseiveness - most notable in 1st and 2nd gear.

Some 'fitting kits' are not much more than jubiless clips and silicone hoses - email Ian at alpina527@aol.com

£410 gets you the M50 manifold, fitting kit, bored TB and ASC unit posted.

It is fairly straight forward, so I would imagine a garage could fit in 3-4 hours. There is slight adaptation of the fuel rail, which Ian will be more than happy to advise on.

I am holding off the mapping side until I have the S52 camshafts. I have been recommended e-maps as they have worked on 3 series with these mods.

The dme will adapt to the manifold by itself (coughing the first couple of times you hit 6k rpm is to be expected) Mapping isnt necessary but can yield a few extra bhp and create an even torque curve. I haven't noticed any flat spots in all honesty

Haha Jim, between USPS and parcelforce it is either in London or Chicago

It's in the UK as it was scanned at Heathrow at 12:31 and departing. So should be there next week sometime, for sure, I hope, maybe!! JIM

This is a picture of the kit on the M50 manifold (throttle body plate and new custom made chamber, screwed and bonded into the underside, which houses the idle valve, air sensor, and oil recirculation valve in exactly the same position as the original M52 manifold)

The manifold also has adapter plates (like these) attached to secure the fuel rail at the exact height so the fuel injectors are fitted correctly. Other kits include these but they are not the correct depth to ensure the injectors are positioned as they should be.

I have heard back from e-maps who sent me a dyno of a 328 with the same mods and their map producing 244bhp, whilst BWChiptune dyno shows 263bhp

I don't know enough about mapping to know if that kind of difference could be solely due to the map itself or whether somebody is fudging it

Once I've had it mapped it will get a dyno and post the results up.

@oldcarman Jim, I have asked the seller to raise a query with USPS and he has a case ref. Priority mail express international = 14 working days and still nothing, glad I didn't skimp it and go for economy :)

Well.. in hindsight I should have had a dyno before getting the m50 manifold for a true before figure.

I plan to get 3 dyno runs - 1. Just with the m50 manifold & BBTB fitted 2. with S52 cams and then 3. after having it remapped. I think if i used the official 193bhp as a base it would be judging the mods conservatively - realistically this will probably have depreciated slightly and therefore the gain maybe 1-2 bhp more.

I have found a place locally that will do a power run for £70 each time, so I may enquire if they could offer a deal. They are completely indy from all mod work so no vested interests :)

I'd always assumed BMW would be a little generous with their numbers. I'd be interested to see how close my 2.2 is to their figures on a dyno run, obviously taking in to account it's done 106k miles now.
 
No ones car will come close to the quoted power output, as this is done on an engine dyno without the restrictions of the CAT, or the loss through the drive train or wheels etc, it's the reason reputable mappers only claim %increases and not plus BHP on OEM

I think the given conversion of bhp at the flywheel to the wheels is ~20% less, but that is by no means fact.

That would put the 2.8 at 155 whp from the official 193 bhp at the flywheel. The dyno I will be getting is horsepower at the wheels, so It would be nice to get a figure for an unmodified 2.8 hp at the wheels to compare.

So how much does this account for roughly?
 
It would be great to get range and a modified & un-modified of each. How is the flywheel coming along?

The place I was looking at for a power run charges £760 for 8 hours of assisted dyno to suit 16 cars for 1/2 hour each.

Hopefully fly wheel will be ready in a couple of weeks, I have to take the throttle body in so will get an up date then, which reminds me I need to do the before driving tests.
