Bikes scare the crap out of me!! Only ever had a 125 for work and I got knocked off.

As for the blower look at a slightly bigger one. The mini one I think is at its limit on a 1.6 and I don't think will handle the volume of air you will want to move.

I have seen this it's quite a car and looks silly fast. Although the 911 engine is out back similar packaging reasons for my idea
It seems a good idea but I guess the biggest issue is protecting it from the road - in the case of the 911 not so great for parking at a supermarket!

Not so clues up on turbos but wondering why mounting this way is not more popular with manufacturers? Cost?

No for sure where it is on that 911 it's very exposed! Mine will be if it goes ahead!! Up where the back box is.

It's not cost effective and ideally it's not the best place! Right by the exhaust outlet is the best place. But for a car like the zed or most right hand drive BMWs there isn't space. And under bonnet temperatures will be high. So why not try putting it out there?!?

I maybe on hear in a few years after doing it explaining why not to do it!!

My Corvair also is rear engined. I get an error message so unable to see how the Porsche set up is done. Corvair had a 180HP model available which was a single blow through system so I would think a four carb system should work even better. Mounts top side of engine so the intake tubes would be quite simply as will the turbo exhaust from a 180HP model. Being a 65 no computers to remap!! JIM

I still haven't done anything with mine........ The supra is taking all our efforts. But it should be ready by Friday evening. Witch is lucky as it will be at Kop hill this weekend. It had its date with the Dyno and produced 280BHP and 290FT LBS witch is up a little from stock.

I am now thinking turbo? Or S/C a 1uz and stick that in the z4????????????????

I have not been hear for a while. Been busy and going to get busier very soon. But i have found some time to make myself a set of engine mounts. I used a set from a well know brand and made mine to a similar specification.

Its MOT time of year for me. So the car will be getting a once over Sunday. Then hopefully I can get these on my new clutch in and possibly the hydraulic rack in and working. We also need a new gear box for the supra build we have been cutting and welding bell housings. The last one we did late at night and it was not aligned properly. Que doing a big smoky burn out at Kop hill climb and a dead box at the top LOL. We would like to get all of the above done in time for Flame and Thunder at Santa Pod on the 29th of October. That and the arrival of my first child any day...... It might be a struggle.

Anyway back to cars. I have had an MOT and the car did not pass. Failed on emissions witch was down to my exhaust having a dodgy join (my fault completely) and also a miss fire on cylinder 5 due to a coil probably didn't help. Any way i have done what any sain petrol head would do in this situation............. I have taken my car off the road. I am fitting my new single mass clutch and light weight fly wheel. Building a new exhaust. This one will be a bit different. I am ditching the quad system and having a single exit. dropping the 2 2" pipes and going for one singular 2.5" the reason for that is exciting..... I will be ordering my TURBO!!! next week.

As it stands at the moment it will be fitted. With the inter cooler and plumbed in. But i will set the waste gate to fully open hopefully all done and finished before Christmas. I cant afford the tune and ECU right now. Hopefully this will all be done before spring.

The mapping is the biggest issue for me. I have a guy who i trust to do the work. Its just what route i chose to go. If anyone has any advise on using the standard ECU piggy back or standalone with BMWs please let me know. The big thing for me is to get it done at a sensible price.

The turbo is going right after the cats under the car. Not traditional i know. And many people have told me i am a fool and it wont work. But doing it this way has many advantages. Under bonnet temperatures will be lower. No need for expressive new headers and aftermarket cats. I am using a very cheap small Turbo to start with. And hoping for 350bhp

Congrats mate, nice pics. Good luck with the turbo, be interesting to see how it comes along. Spoke to a chap recently who was well into his Zed 3's and Bimmer in general. He tells me that Turbo/Supercharging my 2.8 would be to harsh on the conrods (whatever they are)?

Plenty of M54 engines have been turbo and S/C set ups on stock internals. I am sure your 2.8 would be fine if its done correctly.

Been looking at a system from the US, gives the single VANOS 2.8 circa 86 bhp increase and runs at 6psi. Costs $5k though less fitting :wideyed:

What system is that? I have looked at all of them for the m54 and they usually cost about £5k but give more power.
Most of the systems are ok to do yourself. No fabrication required just bolt them on a flash the ECU.
Not sure about your engine but the M54 responds well to forced induction. Up to about 400bhp on stock internals.
I am hopping my build to come in under £1500 all finished. And then upgrade to a better turbo later. But i am having to custom fabricate all the pipe work and brackets myself.

The VF stuff is very good and easy to fit (on a Z4) I know 2 people that have them.
They are also worth contacting as they will negotiate on price a bit. If you where not so far away i would offer to help the fitting. I still would but its quite a drive to Oxford for you.

Many thanks for the offer, very kind of you. I have no problem with travel. It will be some time of yet though if I go ahead as I would need time to save and funds for brakes and suspension upgrades etc so going to be a few £££££. Probably not this side of 18 months I should imagine. Still, gives me something to aim for.
