Guys
I am sorry I have not posted reference Insurance, but I know on a previous occasion by saying the wrong thing I upset someone I value very Highly and as such unless I have proper answers I do not think that it is right to post. And at the moment I do not have answers. Also this post was to try and determine interest, not try and cover all the details.
I know that if on here I post that you do not need to inform your insurance and you then have an incident then I, and the forum owners/ administrators, become legally liable because of saying you do not need to inform your insurers. Therefor under no circumstances will I say that sort of thing on a public forum. I am not prepared to become liable for someone else's misfortune or decisions reference what they should or should not tell (or ask of) their insurance company. In Addition if I say you must inform your insurers then if someone does not then any insurance company where a claim is made who was not informed, can invalidate the claim as the "organisers" had said that insurance companies should be informed. (I hope this is understandable in english even if not in common sense terms).
This one is a minefield! I investigated it a few years ago when another forum said we should inform insurance companies about the Silverstone classic which is held on a race circuit and we were doing a parade lap on the circuit which definitely "could" invalidate the insurance, depending on the insurance companies term and conditions BUT NOT ALL Insurance companies. That was when I upset someone I value very highly! Different insurance companies will have different criteria so there is no single answer.
When I talk to the London to Brighton organisers, which I hope will be next week sometime I will be asking how others deal with the issue and if there is any form of cover that the organisers have etc, but I do not see them having insurance that would cover an individual involved in an accident but some form of cover to protect themselves I would envisage. (But I do not know this for sure).
I will also ask the organisers what the classification of the event is properly in a manner that I hope I can get them to do on our public forum so that they supply the answers with me being an intermediary (you know what happens, I think they call it Chinese whispers)
Insurance is an emotive issue especially when the insurance companies try and wriggle (either for more money or to get out of a claim, I recently had them threaten to refund my policy fee, ten months in and invalidate my entire insurance insurance {and two claims} because I had not told them I had swapped one Saab radio for another when I had a prang in the Saab recently, SO I am talking from personal experience here).
On my Z's I have a policy which even covers 5 track days a year for me with different excess but cover on track all the same and it is just a part of my policy which costs me less than the insurance on my Saab which is a much lower insurance group.
So I am sorry I did not post previously but as I hope you can see I cannot provide advice for legal reasons, and the information that I will be able to post in the future I do not have the answers for yet but when I talk to the organisers next I will ask them to give us whatever they think they should especially about the way the event is classified. I will even see if they feel they can advise without creating a problem for those that "decide to or not" inform their insurance companies. That is hard to word right but I hope you get what I mean.
Regards
Duncan
