Duncan, as it is a rally, I assume we would need to inform the Insurance?

@zedonist I am not sure how you would describe a bit of fun on public roads following a route as a 'Rally'.. I think you will find the classification of Rally as a competitive motor sport off road and on closed roads.. If you want to check, I would be very interested to see if they want to fleece you for a few bucks..

Insurance companies are fairly happy to "fleece" you whenever you give them more info, however if you don't give them all the details then there is an escape route for them not to pay you out if there is a problem. Just the way it is.:(

It is a Rally @pgunter, there are plenty of road rallies around the country and globe that take part on public high ways. Anyway I have checked the rules, and says must be insured for use in this event, so that makes it quite clear for me.

Very interesting concept and very creative by the insurance co's. Do you have to carry special individual insurance or is there a floater policy taken out that covers all participants? When I've set anything up here, I get a policy covering the grounds but any events using public roads are covered via our provincial insurance as long as no laws are being broken. JIM

Doesn't that make every cruise we organise 'A Rally', Zedonist. Does that mean every time we get together, without it being classed as impromptu and even then we communicate via the forum, we have to tell our insurance because it is under the label as being organised!!:(:banghead:

If so, that means that the EAC would be forever on the phone to their insurance companies and paying endless extra payments to them!!!!:arghh:

Technically yes Mike I guess, you would need to ask your insurance.

I was making the point that the London to Brighton is actually classed as a road rally, and in the official rules it asks the the drivers to be covered accordingly.

As for cruises does the EAC have rules? and in the event of public damage or injury does the organiser of the EAC event have liability, and can they pay out of their own pocket? I can't answer those questions.

Your own personal vehicle insurance if part of your policy will cover you for public liability, but does it include for organised events? Again I don't know your circumstances, I know mine does not.

All that aside (and it is a issue we've covered before), I know Duncan is exceptionally diligent when it comes to organising events. Therefor I'm confident he will make sure that any details like this are fully covered as it progresses. If people have to contact their insurers for permission (or possibly have to pay (the robbing buggers) extra) then that will be made known before anyone turns up for it!

So are you saying stop the discussion then Gaz? I actually had a legitimate question, as my insurance is quite specific on what is and is not allowed, I quite fancy the event, but if it means paying more insurance i won't do it.

Gotta love censorship

I'm not censoring the conversation. What I'm saying is that in relation to this particular event I'm confident Duncan will supply all the required information - including insurance considerations.

It doesn't say anywhere in my post to stop talking about it, it just says I'm confident it will be fully explained in this instance. If it's a generic conversation about meeting up for cruises etc, then that is probably best covered in it's own thread.

Well perhaps the thread owner should pull their finger out and answer questions this was not originally raised today but a few weeks ago.

I also feel the way your post was worded came across as a slap in the face, something I think you should have had more consideration for, especially for a more seasoned member of this forum, or do you feel now, with the size of the forum that member respect does not matter?

Come on @zedonist I did not read Gaz post in that way, the way I read it was that he did not know the answer to the question either and assumes that the organizer will advise, but as you pointed out, the question was raised a while back.
