KG51 EOF - Progress & Ownership Thread

No idea about what UK numbers are, but this spec and color is a rarity for European LHD, with Pistachio being the unobtanium.
 
Had the wheels off today to have an initial look round - I'd already removed the metal dust caps when I initially checked the tyre pressures on the day I picked it up so I just needed to remove the locking wheel bolts.

Fortunately the previous owner had fitted 20mm spacers on the rear but left the old bolts in the boot so I managed to recycle 2 of those. The fronts had 5mm spacers fitted so the original bolts were fine. Also looks like someone's been in there and replaced some of the bushes.

Looks like the front discs and hubs have been replaced but the rear discs look like they could do with replacing - pads should be fine until June when the MOT is due so I'll see what the mechanic says when I take it in for the service & MOT in a couple of months.

Had a good clean round in the boot and removed the lining to check for water ingress - all very dry but certainly looks like there had been a previous problem. If I'm not mistaken the incline sensor looks like its toast so I will likely just remove that if it causes any problems in future.

The battery looks fairly new and supplied by Tayna but I am missing the spanner from the toolkit in addition to the socket - one things for sure I won't be replacing it with this :oops:

I also removed the spare wheel to check the state of that - usual story but once cleaned up I suspect it will be suitable for my needs, I've certainly seen worse.

However, the first job I need to sort is the rear view mirror - it was like this when I collected it and although the previous owner had attempted to reattach the metal button the adhesive they had used didn't work. As a result opening and closing is currently by key only but I have connected the mirror to confirm the remote functionality is operable.

So having done all that I thought I'd get the first wash on the car but it was Friday and the sun was shining so what you going to do - there's always tomorrow ;)

Still waiting on the glue I ordered to sort the rear view mirror out and with all the rain today I didn't bother getting the washing gear out. Instead I decided to treat the roof and door rubbers with Gummi Pfledge - while I was at it I also removed the rear lights to give them a good clean and treat all the rubber seals.

Took the Mrs out yesterday on my usual route through the Peak District so she could pass judgement on the new car - unfortunately her rating system is heavily biased to how long she can fall asleep for while I'm drivong so with the top down all the way the Z3 didn't score very high =))

She does like the colour though and agreed the views are much better from the Z3 :thumbsup:

Today turned into removal day - so that's the spacers gone. Not really my cup of tea as I think the staggered 78's do a good enough job on their own.

Also removed the corroded incline sensor which I suspect as had a part to play in the replacement batteries and previous alarm issues that are referenced in the car's service history.

Finally ahead of picking up a new aerial grommet from Sytner Sheffield tomorrow I couldn't wait to get rid of the existing one - so temporary sticking plaster is now in place.

Tbh I'm not sure - looks similar in appearance to the one I had on my M44 but it does sound a little deeper. Not sure if that is how it should sound though. This is the first M43 1.9i sport I've had - the others were the 2.2i and the 3.0i with the M54.
 
How much is it ?
One of the things I love about the Z3 is the variety and value for money that's available - but I must admit to getting tired of constantly changing.

So while I can't commit to stop looking hopefully I won't see another one that is more appealing than this ;)

The original one has a distinctive deep tone and inside it looks like the one in the photos.
if it is original, you are a lucky man. it is a great exhaust. Disturbing at motorway with the top down at constant speed, but a real joy on twisties.

Exhaust looks stock the oval pipe on the m44 is a single pipe out box with oval tailpiece.
The m43 is a twin exit squeezed into the oval end piece.

Must say I'm surprised by this purchase Garrie, I had one and just found the 118 odd bhp not enough. It was ok just flitting about on twisty roads and on the motorway, but if I wanted a bit of power on a hill it wasn't there. I only kept mine for a few months then bought the 2.2.

Based on what you and @Stevo7682 have said and the photo's you both shared it appears to be the original. Looking underneath I can also confirm the chrome end piece is fed by twin pipes from the back box :thumbsup:

Loving it so far and have to say if anything it feels up on power compared to the previous M44 I had. When I drove it back from Kent it handled the motorway at a steady 70mph no problem and pushed on easily as and when required. At one point I had it up to 100mph just to see how it felt and again it felt great.

The previous owner did mention that he'd had it mapped by a specialist it Kent but having not driven one before I had nothing to compare it to - will have to get you in the driving seat at some point so you can let me have your thoughts.:thumbsup:

Try to preserve it as long as you can. Dont ask me why, but it seems that it is highly recommended as the being the best for power even compared to after market ones.
 
Picked up the new aquisition from Sytner Sheffield last week but been golfing in Spain for few days so not had chance to do anything with it until today - very pleased with it :thumbsup:
