Just landed.

A very sad sight on our way up the the Keys at Islamorada yesterday, one of our very favourite dining locations right on the water side. It appears that Irma arrived and came in one one side of the building and departed by the other.:(

Just a shell now awaiting demolition. We learned that anyone who had a place destroyed has until December this year to start rebuilding otherwise they have to start again with planning permission etc. hence this.

Crikey, looks like a war zone.
Must have been absolutely frightening to have been anywhere near when all that happened.
Got to feel for those affected.

We are out there late October early November @t-tony staying as Bahama Bay Resort in a condo, don't suppose you are out there around then?

Hi Ian, it's possible. We haven't got anything planned at the moment.

Tony.

will check back with you nearer the time eh?

No Frankie, that's what we took to be their temporary home.

It would be interesting if I could get up a long distance cruise with some of the 'local' Zeds for a trip down to Florida. Perhaps even pick up a few members on the way down going through all those states.............................Frankie

It’s a shame the government does not give assistance to help people rebuild in high risk areas for he economy but I suppose that’s the USA for you. Made me sad over in Hawaii seeing some of the poverty over there such a beautiful place though.

It looks far from over yet too mate.:( You have to think that even as badly as the Keys have been affected it is reasonably short term damage but what is happening in Hawaii will be felt for generations.

Sunset at Banana Bay Hotel in Marathon at the bar near the water.
Watching some local people fishing from the dock at the hotel.

Apparently one of the few hotels to escape Irma virtually unscathed apart from losng many tress from the grounds. Thete were home to "Fema" families until Feb. this year.

Tony.
