Looking great pal, Monroe shocks are such good value for money and as we all know Eibachs are cracking spring and who would have thought that 30mm could make such a huge difference

Loving the stance at the moment. Looking forward to seeing what it’s like in a week or two once they have settled.

Where did you get the trim from pal
I had to get it from BMW directly :nailbiting:

Back to work on the Black 2.2 and think I found out why it’s misfiring on all cylinders, running rough and telling me all lambda senors need replacing.

Rather large rips in both intake pipes.

So order new ones and then to reset the fault codes and see if that clears up the issues.

Then on to the ASC fault codes. Looks like it was pushing out some faults codes that didn’t make much sense. So a bit of Googling and the main culprit appeared to be the ASC control module having dry contacts. Some people have tried to swap these over but still have issues with them needing coding or something to get them to work without throwing out fault codes. So I decided to repair mine.

Heated it up with a hot air gun and removed the front.

Low and behold there were the 2 dry contacts. So I soldered them up and put it back together.

Not the best photo but the 2 solder contacts were dry and needed resoldering to make better contact.

Both contacts resoldered.

I haven’t tested it yet as I’m still awaiting the 2 new air hoses. As soon as they have arrived it will all go back together, codes wiped and then see what happens.

Fingers crossed :bag:

Hopefully. Can’t wait to get it back together.

Also the seller of the front shocks got back to me and I’ve posted it back to them. So hopefully I’ll get the replacement one soon.

Looked like to solder had come away from the connector. So resoldered and hopefully that will sort the issue out and the module will work properly now.

Managed to get some Oregon Red Leather from @spurs fan in a coupe, many thanks, so that I was able to re-cover the steering wheel tabs to match the rest of the interior.

I had previously covered my steering wheel tabs in some smooth red leather but wasn't to happy with the match.
View attachment 65828

So first up was to clean and condition the leather and the remove it from the plastic backing

Once I had removed it I the used a Stanley knife blade to carefully remove the foam that was still attached the back of the leather.

I then sanded down the steering wheel tabs with some sandpaper so that the glue had a good surface to take to.

I then sprayed carpet glue onto the tabs and leather backing, after left for a couple of minutes to go tacky.

I then attached the leather and stretched it across the tabs. Trimming the edges and holding in place until it set.

One finished tab compared to the original:

The finished tabs ready to be fitted to the car.

Left the tabs to fully dry, about 6hrs, then fitted them to the cars steering wheel when I got home from work today:

Happy with the final outcome and look of them. They match the seats and door cards now

Hi Jim,

Just want to ask, as I'm in the process of getting the steering wheel tabs fitted with matching leather too, is it difficult to get the tabs removed? Any tips?
Thanks in advance!

Really easy.

  • Disconnect battery, wait 5 minutes for system to discharge.
  • Undo 2 air bag retaining bolts on the side of the steering wheel (T27 if I remember correctly)
  • Pull air bag forward and disconnect the horn and airbag wire connectors.
  • The side tabs will then pull off.

Pulling them will require a bit of strength as they are held in quite well with the plastic lugs. Nothing will break upon removal, and they will then push back in easily after.

Looks fantastic, a couple of questions as a new owner please.

Where did you source the boot trim?
Springs & shocks, which would you recommend and also any disc brake upgrades recommendations for my 99 2.8?

Kind regards
Got the boot trim from BMW directly - not cheap, but at least you can still get hold of them. They only came standard on Z3M.

I’ve used Monroe shocks and Eibach Pro kit springs. I’m happy with the setup.

Biggest front brakes you can fit on the Z3 are from an E46 330 (petrol or diesel, they’re both the same). You’ll need the Caliper and carrier. Also be aware that you’ll need to have 18” wheels to fit over them.
If you want to stick to a maximum of 17” wheels, then you can get Z3 3.0ltr brake callipers.

On my way to work this morning, top down and reached another milestone in Blue today - 143000 :coolsteer)

She's just had an oil service, change of coolant, new spark plugs, new diff oil and new gearbox oil. Running very smooth :D
