I will be looking for a new top soon. How long does Jack Smith need the car for?

He made mine on a Thursday and had the sat for about 4 hours first class job
Got to ask about the rear window...
...what does Jack Smith's do? Take the existing one out and add to the new mohair roof?

I believe he replaces the window as well.

I had a hood fitted just yesterday at Jack Smiths.

The current price is £330.
Price has increased £30 in a couple of years. Still a bargain for the work and quality you get. He could easily charge a lot more, I've not heard a bad review about him.

Took him around 5 hours to fit mine but I think he's normally quicker.

I was anti-sewn in windows until I tried to zip a factory one in and discussed the whole thing with Raymond at Jack Smiths.

Trying to get the zip started, trying to get it to mesh and keeping it meshed all the way round can be a nightmare. Some people get lucky but I had a nightmare. Raymond told me it's hit and miss and there's no secret to it.

Genuine BMW replacement windows can be deteriorated after sitting around for years. 3rd party ones are inconsistent. Loads of people will report good success with Emiata & Munster and then you'll discover people saying their's was a poor fit.

Also the stitching deteriorates on the roof side of the zip and it often needs repair over large areas. And even if it looks intact on the outside it can be damaged where you can't see it.

The inside of the roof rots as well. My old roof looked pretty reasonable on the outside but when it was removed Raymond showed me rotted and mouldy felt.

At £330 you can have a whole new roof every time instead of just a window. And you have the bonus of the roof frame being routinely resealed to cure any leaks.

Just try and get it sorted out of season if you want it done. I got lucky and was in within 3 days. In the summer you could be waiting 3 months.

But fair play if you've done a successful window swap. And getting to Swansea isn't practical for everyone.

Yes the plastic is replaced.
This sounds an incredible price and service!
Can anyone who's had a new Jack Smith's roof and window replaced posted some photos of the ned results, please? Would appreciate seeing the "end product".

Mine is on a car I’m selling with a deal agreed/deposit taken. So I’m a bit reluctant to post pictures as it’s not really my car anymore.

Bit odd? I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem.

No longer putting in side vents btw. Well I suppose he could on request. He says they are the source of some leaks.
