Today is etch and paint day . . .finally, much cleaner than derusting. (Ill pretend for today that the car and tank straps don’t need doing), so all the pieces out and metal prep . . .
Then time for painting, i went with POR15 which I’m glad to say has been a dream to apply, the consistency is great and I’m surprised at how far the tiny tins go application wise . . . I managed to apply a coat to all the below with less than 1.5 tins
So, loads of bits done, cant wait to put it all together with bushes and new nuts n bolts . . .alas, might be trying to change a clutch and still need to derust the chassis so installation will have to wait. . .
Used the above caliper paint and its a paint brush type . . . Needs about 4 coats to be good but the amount that came in the tin is enough for 2+ cars front and back. I’ve got some spray lacquer to finish it off . . .racing red, going to make me twice as fast and brake in 1/2 the distance
So a question for you more knowledgable. . . Regarding welding spots in the boot . . .it looks like 3 have popped (add it to the list) and in your (the knowledgable), does this need attention?
1) Is there a thread you can direct me to to see how the weld strengthening should be carried out?
2) any recommendations of places near Gatwick or in south London?
Welding is a real art and not easy.
I have a small arc welder but not the skill yet, so I would never let myself loose on my Zed !!
Mine uses welding rods, and in hindsight wish I had bought a small MIG welder (wire feed )
So, i got excited and decided to put rear trailing are bushes in . . .mmm its a tight fit and after having to use a rubber mallet they keep slipping out, so beam bushes in, grabbed a beer and tomorrow is another day!
