CHEQUERED FLAG
KIMI RAIKKONEN WINS THE AUSTRALIAN GRAND PRIX

:ymparty:

In Summary
Raikkonen wins
Alonso 2nd, Vettel 3rd
Massa 4th, Hamilton 5th
Rosberg, Maldonado out
Ricciardo out, Hulkenberg DNS

BBC: 0735:
"OK Kimi, an absolutely fantastic job. Now save as much fuel as you can," says Kimi Raikkonen's race engineer. The Finn replies: "Thanks everybody, I told you that the car is good. Thanks everybody, great job."

BBC:0737:
Of the top six, only Kimi Raikkonen managed to do just two stops. The Finn really looked after his tyres and that formed the foundation for his 20th career win. Very impressive.

BBC F1 co-commentator David Coulthard
"Kimi Raikkonen is a quality driver - he was a world champion at Ferrari of course. Arguably he should have won more there. What a way to start the season."

BBC: 0742:
Here's how the rest finished: 11) Perez 12) Vergne 13) Gutierrez 14) Bottas 15) Bianchi 16) Pic 17) Chilton 18) Van der Garde
Retirements: Ricciardo, Rosberg, Maldonado. Did not start: Hulkenberg

BBC: 0745:
It's a podium of world champions - it's not very often that happens. Worth noting that in six of the last 10 years, the winner in Melbourne has gone onto win the title. I reckon Kimi Raikkonen will like the sound of that statistic.

BBC:
Lotus driver Kimi Raikkonen, who took victory: "I was confident that the tyres would be OK. I had a very good car all weekend even though I didn't do any long runs in the winter. You just have to get through the early laps in the first race of the season. Near the end, I was still pushing because I knew Fernando was catching up a bit and I thought at some point we would need a little extra if the rain came again."

BBC:
Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton, who scored 10 points: "We didn't expect to have such a competitive car. Some people will be like, 'Oh, it wasn't great' but I think fifth's good. I had to come in and changes tyres and 27 laps on that tyre [wasn't possible], so we had to covert to a three-stop strategy. I think we'll have a good race in Malaysia."

The Ice Man is back.....I said so last season, except this season, I put him in a McLaren....DOH!!!!!...... ~x(

I switched my teams around before watching the race, shame I didn't do it before the race actually happened as I would have a had a load more points, haha.

I didn't know the result when I switched them about but didn't do too bad considering I had mclaren at the time of the race!

Go Kimi!

Stormy! Friday in Malaysia.....

The storms held off through first practice with Webber clocking the fastest time ahead of Kimi and Vettel. Come practice 2 and the storms hit, but not before Kimi continued on his winning streak and topping the timesheet ahead of Vettel, the rejuvenated Massa and Alonso.

In Summary
Qualifying under way

Rosberg fastest in rain-hit Q2
Webber 2nd, Hamilton 3rd
Raikkonen 4th, Grosjean out
Sutil fastest in first session

BBC: 0838:
It's all gone wrong for Paul di Resta. The Scot spins his Force India not once but twice as he desperately trying to put a lap together in the slippery conditions. It's not going to happen, though. The rain has all but ended any hopes of improvements in this session

0843:
SECOND QUALIFYING ENDS

Nico Rosberg finishes fastest in the second part of qualifying for the Malaysian Grand Prix.

0844:
Well that was a bit of an anti-climax, with the rain preventing any improvements in the final minutes. But the tricky conditions do mean we've got a corker of a pole position shoot-out coming up for you shortly. Rain continues to fall at Sepang. This is prime Jenson Button territory, this.

BBC: 0903:
FINAL QUALIFYING ENDS

It's not quite good enough from Felipe Massa, but it's still a great effort as he goes second quickest. It's been over 50 races since he's started on the front row. And let's not overlook the fact the Brazilian has outqualified Fernando Alonso again.

0904:
POLE POSITION
0905:

The reigning world champion does it again. When it comes to pressure in qualifying, there are few who can cope better than Sebastian Vettel. The German finished 0.9 seconds quicker than anyone else. Sensational effort.Sebastian Vettel takes pole position for the Malaysian Grand Prix.

0906:
THE TOP 10

1) Sebastian Vettel 2) Felipe Massa 3) Fernando Alonso 4) Lewis Hamilton 5) Mark Webber 6) Nico Rosberg 7) Kimi Raikkonen 8) Jenson Button 9) Adrian Sutil 10) Sergio Perez

0908:
Lewis Hamilton outperforms Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg for the second successive race. Good work, too, from the McLarens - Jenson Button and Sergio Perez - who both made it into the top 10 for the first time this season.

GET INVOLVED
Andrew Priestley: "Lewis Hamilton forgets he's no longer employed by McLaren! He was on autopilot! He's about as awake as I am this morning!"

Thomas Day: "We have all done what Lewis did. I remember trying to get into my old student digs once..."

Jaques: "Thanks Hamilton for making me laugh, especially after seeing Alonso crash out! Lol."

LAP 15
Kimi Raikkonen is rewarded for his persistence, finally passing the McLaren of Sergio Perez for ninth. As soon as he gets released, he sets the first first sector of the race. The boy has pace and could still figure up at the sharp end of the field.

Reigning world champion Sebastian Vettel on the team radio: "Mark is too slow, get him out of the way." Don't mince your words, Seb will you?........ :ymsick:

LAP 28
Sebastian Vettel's race engineer Rocky tells his charge that there's still half the race to go, but the reigning world champion is clearly irritated with the situation as Lewis Hamilton hunts him down.

BBC F1 technical analyst Gary Anderson:
"Oh, that really isn't necessary from Vettel. Let's see if Webber can make him eat his words."

GET INVOLVED
Leslie Rogers: "Sebastian Vettel just showed he is not a team player...he should be ashamed of himself! Webber to win!"

Daydream Books: "Learn to overtake your teammate on the racetrack, not get your team to get him to move over."

James Bamford: "Actually Seb, according to the F1 Live Timing you're a bit slower! Come on Lewis, close up behind him and let's see a race!"

LAP 44
Mark Webber pits for a set of the hard tyres, in contrast to Sebastian Vettel who chose the mediums. He rejoins side-by-side with his team-mate! This is so close! They battle hard into Turn Two but Webber stays ahead. The Australian then goes defensive at Turn Three and forces his team-mate wide into Turn Four. Good driving from Webber.

Sebastian Vettel's race engineer tells his charge: "Be careful".

LAP 46
THE RED BULLS NEARLY HIT EACH OTHER DOWN THE START-FINISH STRAIGHT.

Red Bull team boss Christian Horner over team radio to Sebastian Vettel: "This is silly, Seb, come on."

LAP 47
Replays show Red Bull design chief Adrian Newey drop his head in his hands as he watches Vettel and Webber almost come to blows on track. We've got just nine laps to go in this race.

BBC F1 co-commentator David Coulthard
"Those messages from Rocky [engineer] and Christian Horner shows they are trying to manage it and allow their drivers to get on with it on the track."

BBC Radio 5 live pit-lane reporter Jennie Gow
"Vettel told to stop using his Kers overtake because both of his front tyres are high on wear."

David Coulthard, BBC F1 co-commentator
"Nico [Rosberg] continues to hassle his team-mate [Lewis Hamilton] it's unlikely he will get Hamilton to make a mistake but it means there is less space to cool the engine down. Bearing in mind they have to use the same engine for several races I can't understand why he is continuing to push it when they have been told to hold their positions."

Mercedes team boss Ross Brawn over team radio: "Nico please drop back, there's nothing to gain - I want to bring both cars home please."
