That fibreglass to door fit is much better than mine - I've had to bend the edge of the Z3 door to get the clearance from the new bodywork and try to fit the fibre- even then there's a few mm (particularly at the bottom) wjere the z3 door sticks beyond the fibreglass
Did you "adjust" the shape of the z3 metal door skin? It bulges out in the center of the door and needs kicking in or cutting out otherwise the tribute door skin won't go on flat..

@argy your position . .

Looks to be pretty close to where my handle is

My handle is a bit wonkey. If I straightened it up it might well be a fair bit lower than yours.

I could live with it 10mm lower. Just a gnat's dodah above the swage.

I'm in no hurry though.

I already lowered mine about 10mm. You can see the filler above the handle. Another 10mm further so that the handle is just touching that bit of string would be OK I think.

But others need to be able to give some input too. Not sure how many 'others' there are?

I have only just paid my deposit, so I have to defer to the experience of others in this forum, but it is all looking good. @Piran can you post a picture of your door to demonstrate the problem.

Hey Russell (Argy)

I don't suppose your technical expertise stretch to chrome work do they. I collected my bumpers from the chrome sprayers yesterday. Really disappointed. They came back with a tint of yellow and the quality was poor.

This, after them being away for 2 and a half months. It's left me feeling pretty deflated.

It's the only job that I outsourced as I sprayed the car myself. In photos, it doesn't look too bad but up close....really poor.

I'm thinking metal bumpers may be the solution. I've considered spraying my fibreglass ones the same colour as the car as it would be an improvement on what I have.

I had the bumpers, grill surrounds and fiat 500 boot handle done. They were cheap but it's the 2 and a half months lost that gripes me.

Thanks

Steve

They make stainless bumpers for many 'classic cars'. Their website doesn't show a 507 (503 yes) but they will probably make you some if you have measurements. Based in Vietnam, but their service is very good. Not exactly cheap, though.

I've had to bend the edge out to meet the glass and at the bottom the metal comes a few months beyond the glass and I've had to make something for the top to hook over on one side

There was someone on the Facebook group looking to get some made in stainless steel, unfortunately don't know if they were successful - I think you would find a few people interested in bumpers (grill surrounds or side vents) so may be able to do it cheaper for a job lot.

Might be worth contacting Rimmer bros, to see if they can source something, the Spitfire MkIV has a similar shape bumper but I guess the measurements are way out 😕.

I grinded mine down a bit as it would foul parts of the rear tub door shut when closing. Planning on some sort of cover strip.

I've had a look on their website. Looks good. The problem I forsee is that they'd need a pair of fibreglass bumpers to mould to as I would imagine "our 507" dimensions differ from the original 507 dimensions.

I bent the edges out to meet the glass which also gave me clearance where it was binding

Tim Flintan was looking into getting Harrington to make some, but a set of grp one will need sending to Vietnam as a template.
Ideally 5 sets need to be ordered to get the price sensible. I’m not sure how he progressed this but there’s enough of us now who would buy them.
how about the grille shells as well 🤔

Did @argy use Harrington for the 250 bumpers?

I'd be interested in bumpers if they were sensible price.

But I couldn't use grill inserts coz mine's different

I'd be up for grill surrounds as well as bumpers

I think everybody gets their stainless brightwork from Harringtons, as there is nowhere else who has the templates (that I am aware of), or can do them for less.

A pair of bumpers for the 250 Cali is around £1,700 delivered. You wouldn't get them made for that in the UK, even if they had templates.
I have a mate who is a stainless welder/ fabricator. I asked him if his supplier locally could make some. It was a NO, as they don't have the machinery to do them.

Yes they would need a set as a template. It can't be done with just measurements. However, if they do make some, then they're likely to cost around £2k a set. It's probably the only option other than hydro-chroming or wrapping which will always be inferior.
