I think it would be a classier effect if they came on and went off with the interior lights mate, rather than prodding an aftermarket switch that you've had to butcher a blank space for. A much neater solution all round IMO:thumbsup:

I was thinking about it......but not a good idea???
My Touareg had them where you could have them on permanently and I found it distracting to be honest Malc.

I think if you were driving down the road with a RED glow coming from your car interior you could possibly get some farther strange proportions , ( like how much for a quicky  )

It would be more than strange if they propositioned a 60yr old for a quickie. How can a 60yr old do anything quick? =))

Yep, I wired mine into the courtesy lights too. Much easier than fitting extra switches:thumbsup:

HELP........

I have been sitting here for a couple of hours wondering how the connections are made....:arghh:

Do you run just the LED live up to the courtesy light...up the drivers A pillar and across to the fitting and join it to the black wire and just put the LED earth somewhere convenient.

The wiring diagram for the interior lights is confusing as it appears to include connections via the ECU ???

From memory (which isn't that good) I connected, soldered mine to the wires in the drivers side A pillar, I think the live was a brown wire. I'm sure there is a 'how to'on this site that I followed.

I connected mine to the wire that comes out the module behind the glove box. Can't remember the colour, sorry but the wiring diagram should tell you. Saved taking the trim off the A pillar. Good luck;)

@Mint I think that ties up with this diagram I found created by @littlefeller on an old thread.

Worth it Malc, they give a nice effect. I used some "diffused" blue led strips form a Walmart somewhere ...............

My car had original footwell lights which made connection easy.

They do look rather classy IMO.

Oooh.....like the look of that

The following info courtesy of @Sean d ( I think). Identifies the wire to connect to. X13252 being the ref on the circuit diagram above.......may have just cracked it =))

behind your glove box is the ZKE unit with 3 plugs. Black, Yellow, Green. (yellow may be changed to a purple plug on facelift)

On the left hand side is a black plug which is X13252 connection
You will need to link in to terminal 4, which is the Brown/Black wire. (Bottom row of plug 4th from right) This outputs +4 to +12 volts giving the brightening/dimming result.

I was going to use that cable for the remote opening of my boot, however its much easier to use the a post connection for footwell lights

I spliced my footwell leds into the interior light circuit running up the windscreen A pillar, not enough room behind the plastic cover to use a scotchlock, best to solder then insulate with tape.

I could be wrong, but I think the wire goes from term 4 of the black connector through the loom and up the A pillar to the courtesy light. But are you saying that there is a connector on the wire in the A pillar, that would make it easier to make the connection to?

Don't know if you've looked behind the glovebox yet Malc, but this photo is of a 1998 1.9 (Dec `97 build) - certainly not as tidy as the earlier photo!

@jonco @abh29 I received the two mini switches today. They are quite small !!!
The switch action does seem to be quite positive though.

The cut out would not interfere with the lugs on the back of either size blank

Could fit two on one blank, one above the other .

Now I have been convinced to connect my footwell leds to the courtesy light, I dont actually need these, so if you want one to try out, PM me with your address and I will post one to you.
I also have 2 of the smaller blanks spare if you need any, ( the larger one in the photo has gone back in the car now)
