Do you have an affiliation with REME @Graham Adamson ?

I don't btw. Well other than very fond memories of their participation in the wonderful Aldershot army displays of the 1970s when our Dad used to take us there.

Well also the fact they now have their base in the Swindon area at f-RAF Lyneham. I'm off there on Sunday for under-17s driving with my lad.

I served for fourteen years in the Corps as a vehicle mechanic. Stationed at Aldershot for a short period in the late nineties. Sunday is the 75th anniversary of the Corps formation and I think there is quite an event this weekend at Lyneham. Yep, they closed SEME, School of Electrical and mechanical Engineering, moving "lock, stock and barrel" to their new home at Lyneham. The museum is now there. If you're that way inclined, there's a major military event at Longleat today and tomorrow.

My late father-in-law was in the REME back in the day. That is where he learned his craft as a recovery man, he built many heavy recovery vehicles which he adapted from ex military vehicles, a tradition his son carries on today. His name was Reg.

That is fantastic, we never hang up our tools. Almost like a pit crew, out in all weathers working with the minimum amount of tools.

Slightly OT here mate, but, when Reg ended up in care suffering from Altzhiemers disease if he went missing he was usually found lying under someone's bed taking it apart. All nuts and bolts etc. lined up in order of removal.
The old lad never lost it.:)
