Need to make sure theres enough cooling/ventilation for the electronics too. I know tvs are much lower power consumption that they were but if you restrict the airflow it will overheat quickly.
Yes have already drilled the holes in the surround ,haven't quite worked out the best way of sealing around the screen,it's a very small gap but I don't want it to show through the glass http://www.purlsol.com/reflective-window-film/#.Vqz7pMSQGrU

Black photo/picture mount card stuck on the glass around the edges to mask the gap between the TV and the surround. Is the gas flush up to the front of the screen?

Its about £4-£5 an A1 sheet. Might need a bevel cutter to key the card into the edge of the screen to get a perfect edge.

Yep it's pretty close to the glass I'll check it out , I was thinking about some foam with sticky tape
How big is the screen to the edge?
I can cut fairly large mounts but I suspect that would be too big to cut out of a single mount. Someone who does mounting and framing would be able to cut larger from A1 or A0 sheets.

Haven't measured it ,I built it a bit bigger than the screen to future proof it .ill put the glass on first to see if it works and just pack around, it if it's a goer I'll have to choose a permanent option

If you have some more wood Hugh, make a small frame to sit inside the large frame, the small frame will be wide enough to cover the gap and sit on top of the black surround on the TV. You can pull the small frame in and if if you require.

Or you could cut a rabbet on each edge around the screen edge and just overhang the frame. A bit of caulk ribbon and problem solved! JIM

It's a bit tricky as I have to be able to get the TV out simply as the frame is pretty permanent and the TV has to fit back and down over the mounting bracket .So complicated for a simple TV stand

With a black silicone caulk you could effectively attach the frame onto the TV and still be able to mount it on the bracket I'd think. JIM

It's even more tricky than that I have to slide the glass down I front of it because of the way it's built and still keep a light free seal

Great DIY skills Hugh, really like the TV and like Brian's idea, here's another idea that I've always wanted to try, get screen saver of a fish tank with tropical fish to play on the screen not repeating itself for as long as you think is needed, could fool most people into thinking its a built in fish tank, the TV edge surround wouldn't need covering because it would make it more authentic, when the guests ask why there's no TV it's gonna make your day.
No idea if it's ever been tried but it would save all that maintenance and feeding/cleaning. Just something I've thought about but never did anything about it.:bored:

Wow!!!!!!! :scorecard: Hugh you said you would and you did it. Can't match that with anything I've done recently.
Hope the punters appreciate it.
Roy.
PS: if the top of frame wasn't fixed to the rest just to tele you could drop it n or out when required,
Just an idea.
