When I fitted mine on my Z3 they were such a tight fit I didn't bother.

But if you do that you are taking the risk that if you happen to have an accident the bar can easily get out of place and injure someone, right?

I was thinking in buying one of these bars and make the middle tubes longer so i could weld a support on the floor of the car and bolt them. Do you think it will be strong enough? I dont have the storage box in the middle of the car.

To be honest it's not worth the effort. You can buy a set of original hoops and plastics and have the real thing for not a lot more expense.

I will try to find the OEM ones but I still need to weld the bases too as my car is from 1996.
I think it will be hard to beat the 125€ posted from this ebay ones, but you never know.

Yes you could be right. Just as a point of interest I have had Z roadsters for 10 years now and have been on several diffetent forums and in all of that time I have yet to see or hear of a single one being rolled over so you'll probably be OK fitting the so called "show bars" anyway.

Yeah it should be very hard to roll this car. I just dont want to make the car less secure in any type of accident. Thats why I was asking if this thing bolts to the car in any way.

Pls

Teignmouth Oct 2015. This Z3 fell off the 20 ft sea wall. It probably subsequently settled in the sand with the tides washing round it.
But the driver (37) got out and walked away. Can't see if it had hoops.

Cheers

Paul

Don't use show hoops, I had aset on and thought they where OK, however a guy came on FB and was lucky to be alive, he had rolled his Z3 and had massive head trauma, didn't have hoops, thats why I changed mine for OEM

That's the post that prompted me to buy hoops from one of our resident breakers.

3 hrs work and a safer better looking car at the end.

Yes I feel a lot safer for having OEM hoops, you never know what lays around the next bend.
