Just ordered all the clips etc plus a lower bumper grille from my local dealer....

Be about 10 days as the grille has to come from Germany....but not a problem as I do have to get the bumper sorted anyway.
But thought I would post this...

Grille from UK source on Ebay £93.15
Grille from Latvia £95.34 Plus 19.20 postage
Grill from my local dealer. £49 plus vat

And the clips totalled up at about £9.00

So dealers not always the worse option !!!

Made a start on the bumper cover today.
Found this at Halfords..
A044957C-DA0C-4856-BE2D-9EF60381B5FE.jpeg

So gave it s try….
Started with some 400 grit wet’n’dry to clean and matt off the whole cover, followed by a scotch pad .

Then mixed up some filler and started filling in all the scuffs and damaged areas.

The split however requires more than just filler.

And was going up to my sons to get it fixed, until I found this …..

Bit cheaper than a weekend away, and will have it next week, so ordered one. 😂

The rest has now been filled and will start rubbing down tomorrow.

3 hours of rubbing down with 400 and 600 grit and just about there…..

A9519955-2791-4E90-8C90-7B65710E6715.jpeg

other than the crack to sort out… but now waiting for the heat repair kit :arghh:

@DomiMik you didn't specify the hole size…..
CB1A7E92-20D7-41EA-8A38-07C3C7F37147.jpeg

Too Big ???? =))

opted for something smaller..
692E621C-B16F-41A7-9E11-459C95FD6EE5.jpeg

And just to see how good the rubbing down was …did a primer coat…. And a lot better than I thought it would be….

The whole thing will be done after the crack sorted. Thats it for today
… back assembling tank strap kits this afternoon😋😋

Saturday was a nice trip up to see the guys at Zedshed HQ .....Only to pick up some parts that that had been cleaned up.
Didnt actually do anything......but then I suppose I never do:whistle:

Also got loaded up with a lot of stuff for Andy, and dropped it off on my way home ( with a little bit of a detour )
But did pick up a replacement earth cable to replace a duff one.
And when I got home ...straight off to footy...so nothing done till today...

Early ( ish) start and sorted the earth cable first.
First re crimped one end as it looked a little bit loose, and thought it would be a good idea to add some heat shrink over the ends
A6FA7018-2921-43A7-A407-87B48FA6C2C1.jpeg

All good and fixed it back on the car...
35CE02F1-FBA6-4B1F-BE09-249BDAF5F50E.jpeg

Except there is nothing to bolt the other end to yet.....=))=))

Then got on with a job I wasn't expecting.....I gave a front wing panel to a member so it could be sprayed and put on his car as a quick swap over, and his panel which didnt match the car would be returned to me .....no problem .....

Except ...mine was totally rust free and his wasn’t ......but c’est la vie

So a bit of cleaning, treating and priming gave me something to do ......
DAF887DB-D328-4E95-95A2-1E367854B413.jpeg

De rusted and treated

F48A59EA-37E0-4710-A986-98356974AF8C.jpeg

And a bit of the face side .....so all now treated and primed....
4D5EA8D3-C124-4A71-A156-DC50BC8A62DD.jpeg

I picked up my LSD ( Limited Slip Differential) ...@Lee is not suppling me with drugs to keep me going !!!!=))

It had been shot blasted
4464944D-57B1-49EF-84F7-896A1AAE8A29.jpeg

Now primed and ready for top coat of black
5B078ED5-8CC2-4F99-89A0-08F447A0B16D.jpeg

I re-bled the brakes using a pressure system....and all seems to be ok ...no bubbles

So underneath and re assembled the spare wheel, (16in rim with a new tyre)
593B4625-4926-476A-ADCD-8413DF063A4C.jpeg

But still fits the tray albeit with a mod to add a spacer to stop it moving about.
The Old 16” wheels have been put back on for now as don’t want to mess the 17” ones up while still playing around with the car.

Then back onto the bumper as my new welding repair kit arrived while I was out on Saturday. Left by the back gate!!
But 3 days earlier than I was expecting it.
Basically a dual soldering iron with staples... ( 4 different types)

B36C74DF-7153-4E6F-A0AE-96EAD0242E15.jpeg

5 second heat up... push it in to the plastic ( on the inside ) and count to 10 and pull the iron away....
And this is the result....
FB03737E-C3F6-4E88-B154-9F8C84450FB6.jpeg

I used four just to make sure.......Then snip off the tangs and apply a bit of filler and thats it.
While I had some filler I did go over the front lip as there were a few depressions
C079AE3E-C439-4388-B3C2-E85692F25971.jpeg

Doesn’t look to good at the moment,, but will rub it all down tomorrow and see how it is.

But the main thing about today......was this !!!!
430AB495-416F-4A18-815A-6B36F9ED9A42.jpeg

Back on its wheels.......Its been so long in the air I thought I might need to apply for a pilots licence

CC25B432-5CE4-4A5A-8D98-C95E415934C5.jpeg

And best news of all the offside rear wheel now points in the right direction......:):):)

So enough for today and finish on a high .....

Mixed feelings about today......

Good stuff first...
Finished sorting out the front bumper so its ready for painting now...nice smooth finish ( although it doesn't look it =)) )

148065AF-C410-415B-BA91-61B97CED2601.jpeg

So while it was sunny, got the LSD sprayed....just to make it look nice when I sell it :)
Certainly having it shot blasted has made all the difference

Grey primer...

Arctic Silver cover ( as I had some left over from the 1.9) and satin black body

DC6B206F-B357-4A9E-96FE-1FBE200D532C.jpeg

Not perfect but ok

Then on to the main feature....
Plugs out and turned the engine over by hand first
3E3A0E78-DDDA-4488-9A76-751CAB030294.jpeg

A bit of lube into each piston then put it all back together and connected the battery........

The result .... it fired on the first turn of the key.......but then would not pick up as I revved it and immediately cut out!
And thats what it did every time I tried to start it.....it wants to go but just cuts out......and I have no idea why :arghh:

The clock/computer thing was ticking really loudly, and continued even when the ignition was off...I had to disconnect the battery to stop it......

I tried to clear fault codes but not sure if they have returned ... the engine management light was on as was the usual ABS lights .....but stumped now ...any thoughts gratefully received....
I thought it may be as there is no bonnet , but I have started the 1.9 with the bonnet up so probably not anything to do that switch on the slam plate....

Just dont know.....glad it wants to start ....but wish it would keep going =))

Stupid question Malc - has it got petrol in the tank, remember it’s always the obvious - fault finding at its best😂

I dont think it would be that as it was running when it arrived and I haven’t played around with the engine

Could be the MAF sensor, try disconnecting that. I had something similar once, the code reader said MAF sensor, I disconnected it and it worked OK.

Sometimes cleaning a MAF kills it completely.

I have some original headlights in the loft you may find useful as you appear to have crashed in the dark and wrecked the front end
