For one without hoops do you need to remove the cubby hole and replace with the sub grille ?
I don't think you actually need the port tube that goes behind the mesh so I'm sure the cubby door could be adapted

Mine does not have a port and works great. Been running a JL sub and it’s probably 10yrs old + by now!
I believe this particular sub is designed for small enclosures without a port - may be different for other.

It’s a 6,5:

This is my full set up:

ICE:
Alpine mechless headunit,
4x Hertz Dieci DSK 130.3,
1 x JL Audio 6.5in 6w3v3 sub in a sealed enclosure between roll hoops
Alpine KTP 445 Inline Amplifier for drivers and Alpine Mono amp for the sub

This link has specs for ideal enclosure size for that sub:
https://www.jlaudio.co.uk/6w3v3-4-car-audio-w3v3-subwoofer-drivers-92145

The amp made all the difference- I originally ran a cheap amp and sounded ok. Put a used Alpine mono amp on it and sounds mega for such a small sub, no shortage of bass and it’s not running at anything like full gain so not overworked.

Similar setup to mine:

  • Pioneer DEH-X8700 DAB radio
  • JL Audio XD1000/5v2 amp with remote bass level control
  • JL Audio 6w3v3 sub & custom sub box
  • Infinity Kappa 50.11cs 2-way components - for the front
  • Hertz ECX130 coaxial - for the rear
  • New speaker wire throughout - Cambridge Audio Symphony 400
  • Rockford Fosgate RFI-20 RCA Cables x 3
I ported my sub, and use an OEM sub grill where the front cubby pocket was. This allows for free air for the box.

Due to the depth and size of the magnet it was not possible to mount it any lower.

I have actually just bought an 8” JL Audio sub which is deeper and now looking at how I can create a new box to mount it in a similar way.

Moved things on a bit today but not quite as straight forward as I expected, I think I may have made the box a little larger then it should be but I'm really pleased with the end result as it couldn't possibly be a better fit, however it did take some modding of the original equipement
Firstly I cut the ends off the cubby so that the caps have something to mount too

also the brackets that the lid hinges to needed cutting down as to keep the integrity of the outer box

More luck then anything else and it fits really snuggly, its also now covered in acoustic carpet

Its all coming togther nicely, the HK grill arrived from Germany today and the Kicker came in the post, its a 6.75 duel sub, has great reviews, seems very well made and is also very slim, just needs final fitment and covers putting over scew holes, still not decided what amp to get yet, the sub is 150 RMS so any reccomendations are welcome as I don't want to fry the sub, the seller reccomends 2 amps, one is 250 amp the other 300 amp, think I will colour the leatherette to match the seats.

Nice job Sean which supplier did you use for the leatherette? It has a nice texture.
Believe it or not, I bought some of Ebay and I wasn't happy with it, I was telling a guy aboiut it that has a unit behind ours and he is like Steptoe, and never thows anything away, he had a rummage arounf and came out with a roll of the stuff, must have been about 6ft X 10ft, as soon as I see I said thats perfect pal.
