Rebody 507 Tribute Build thread

Always have the yellow/white plates in the boot. If you get stopped ( unlikely) then it's "Sorry officer, I was at a car show and I forgot to change my plates back" Hopefully a wrapped knuckle and on your way. They're probably more interested in looking at your stunning car than doing you for such a minor issue.
I have always had a set of 'legal' plates in the boot when I have had slightly 're-arranged' number plates. Never needed any of them (yet).

I used American Tennessee plates for two years, and at a large police hosted event, and no one noticed.
enjoy something that looks correct!

You are allowed to use plates with an older year letter. But, as far as I know, black plates are only allowed on cars over a certain age. 1973, or 75 i think.

Although there's also some rule relating to vehicles over 40. But not a 25 year old zed.

If you get a job's worth plod he can have the reg number confiscated/cancelled without refund.

Yes. The black plate thing is an "interesting" one.

When the 40 year rolling classic tax thing came into force, the 40 year started in 1973. Black plates were legal on pre-73 cars, so many people assumed (wrongly) that they were included in the rolling year thing - they are not.

You can have historic tax on a 40 year old car that hasn't been significantly modified, but you can only have black plates on a pre-73 car.

It's upto DVLA to decide if a kit car is significantly modified. I would say that it is, so I won't be applying for historic tax status when the time comes.

Wheels I want to replicate the Rudge knock offs.
I bought bmw winter steels and had them powder coated.
centre caps are Vw transporter sprayed red with plastic spinners off Amazon. These spinners are bolted on from the rear.
fitying the caps to the wheels isn’t straight forward as Vw use special bolts with oversized heads, and the bolt diameter is 2mm larger than bmw. At present I’m having the bolts turned down and new threads cut so I can use the Vw bolts. Fingers crossed this works so the caps fit. I will update when the bolts arrive

I'm interested in doing the same. Did the work on the VW bolts affect the material? I mean the hardness of the metal? Need heat treatment? Or?

No issues I’m aware of. They have held up ok so far 👌

I was wondering if it would be possible to fit this kind of wheel bolt caps onto the head of the BMW wheel bolts.

Then attach the VW centre caps to the wheel bolt caps so they stay on? Dunno. Worth Trying?

I fitted the new ‘Roadster’ aluminium sill strips inside the doors today. The old ones were corroded and looked tired so I bought the new ones from a place in Germany.
They have double sided tape on the back and I added some Tiger Seal for extra stickiness.
Pictures aren’t great due to reflections but the result is perfect

Into the garage today for an oil and filter service.
Wow! It feels much more energetic now.
still needs a couple of jobs but they’ll be done soon.
(cam shaft sensor, new brake switch, new shocks all round)

Please let us know where you bought the inner door roadster strips from*
*forms an orderly queue 🤣

I bought them from Tuneon and I’m sure the price has dropped from when I got mine,

They also seem to be on Etsy
