Z3's going up in value?

Hello all,

My first general post apart from the new member one.

Looking through adverts for Z3's I keep reading comments about them "sure to appreciate", or "future classic"

So what's the org members views?

A car is only worth what someone is prepared to pay.

I see some adverts are now pushing over £10,000 for non Z3m models, anyone know if any have actually been sold for that sort of money?

I would suggest so, I looked on Autotrader Nationally for Zeds up to £11k and there were loads of 1.9' - 3.0 well in excess of £7k. That would suggest to me that they're not far off bottoming out for the better condition ones.

Prices will always rise slowly at the start of the year. Price expectation in some cases can be a bit daft, but as you say something is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. There are of course those who don't do any kind of research before hand...

I've never really seen the non-///M variants being likely to reach big numbers in the coming years (if ever). Would only be the low mileage Z3's in mint condition if anything. As for the ///M's, the prices have been all over the place the last few years but seem to be rallying.

Safe money though is with the ///M Coupes...

Generally looking at the market a "nice" Zed with 90-100k miles are fetching £2500-£3500. Rough cars can fetch a £1000, excellent low mileage standard cars £4500-£6000. I can't see anyone with an ounce paying £10000+. As nice as it would be I'm with @GazHyde on this, low thousands definitely, high thousands highly unlikely other than ///M models.

I think as with anything, the rarer they get (still plenty of Z3's on the road) the more money they will attract if in A1 condition with low mileage. Not a Z3 but a Series 1 Escort RS Turbo recently went for £60k at auction! Silly money I agree but somebody paid it. Early days for the Z3 though but if you've got the funds and good storage, why not.

If you can get //M cars at the right money and tuck them away then I'd say yes but I don't think you'll ever be rich. If your thinking of doing something like that do your homework on certain Mercs and Fords. If I had some of the old fords I had years back I would be sitting a some big money now but like you say we can't see into the future.

Agreed @Grumpy but on the flip side just like us all wishing we'd kept our old fast fords (A reg black XR3i & H reg Fiesta RS Turbo) in my case, will we be saying in 10-15 years time " I wish I'd kept my 2.8 "Wide Boy as rare as hen's teeth" Z3 ............ probably. Agreed though the Fast Fords do have a significant head start, however, once upon a time ago most were only worth £2.50 and a bag of chips but the rarer they get the better nik they tend to be in.

I kick myself for the cars I've wrecked in the past like my Mk2 Capri JPS I just drove it into the ground and my 2.8 I swapped for a damn kit car and there are many more and lets not talk about motorbikes either.... some of them would be worth a fortune now!

Well the value of the car is not all £'s.... its in what it does for you when you drive it... How can you put a price on the feeling you can get with the great sunny day, warm and blue skies.. top down and having a lovely countryside drive.. ? Priceless.

NOOOO !!!!! They are made to be driven !! It's like the people who win the lottery and keep working - they should be slapped, winnings revoked, and given their £1 back !!

(btw... I know you are talking hypothetically).

In all seriousness, there are loads of non M zeds out there so the price will never boom - at least not for a good number of years. Plus you have to remember that these are good quality BMW's - well made and run forever... the days of cars lasting only 10 years are long gone so its harder to compare them to other old classics that have quietly disappeared and are now worth a mint (Minis, MK1 Escorts, Fiat 500's etc)

I had a lovely Scirocco a few years ago, sold it for what was a reasonable price at the time in 2007, so wish I'd kept it now.
