You can now watch whole forums, as well as individual threads.

This is particularly useful if you want to keep up with items being added to the "For Sale" or "Forthcoming Events" section.

New feature for desktop/laptop/tablet users. As you scroll down the page a "Top of Page" button will magically appear. Saves you having to scroll back to the top again ;)

That's a great addition Gary, it does save the scroll wheel from much abuse;)

No more having to mess around resizing the images before uploading. This should make it a little easier for you all when attaching images to the forum.

Images are now automatically resized as you upload them to the site.

For example I uploaded a test file earlier which was 2.6MB in size, and over the file attachment size limit. As the system uploaded the file, it resized it from 3264x2448px to 1024x768px. This brings the file size down to 126KB, well within the 2MB limit.

This will also allow us to utilise disk space better, and I have upped the number of attachments to 8 per post (from 4)!

A few visual tweaks this evening!

1. New hi-resolution forum header, featuring a bit of ///M Power ;). Gives the site a more fresh look than the darker carbon fibre effect.
2. The blue menu colours on the default "light" theme have been toned down a little. Now a little easier on the eyes.

Cheers, Gary

I like the hi-res header Gary but could it be made smaller? The size it is pushes the selection tabs (or whatever they are called) half way down the screen so there is more scrolling to be done.

Any plans to make the look and feel customisable on a per user basis (or would that take up too much memory)?

Will be tinkering with the header images over the coming days to get it spot on.

As for per user customisation, there are some things which can be done now (such as different colour schemes). Was there anything specific you wanted to customise?

Nothing specific really Gary. I was thinking the sort of stuff you are doing, changing the layout, wider range of colours (rather than light/dark), pictures, backgrounds (our own Zed for instance) but individually rather than forum wide.

I'll add that lot to my list of "would like if possible" features :) Can't promise anything though!

Hi all, just installed the latest version of the Xen Media Gallery (1.2.0). The developer has brought in a load of new functionality (and is preparing the way for the best feature ever coming soon!)

Here are some of the new features (bug fixes omitted)
  • Extension of "What's New" to include "New Media" as well as "New Threads"
  • Mark Media Viewed (or mark current category as viewed)
  • Search media items (media title, description and caption) from search
  • Contextual search on media pages (search media only, search this category only etc.)
  • Latest Comments block
  • Top Contributors block
  • New alert for when your media is rated
  • Ability for your members to completely customise which alerts they receive
  • Image previews now show in Recent Activity
  • Adds option to display New Media block on forum list (enabled)
  • Small performance and bug fixes
  • Added open graph meta data to media view pages
Just ask if you have any questions. Let me know if you can think of any image categories that need adding ;)

"Start a Conversation directly from a thread, or users profile field."

I'm having to disable this functionality for now as it appears to be causing an issue with another part of the site. I hope that a fix for this can be found quickly, and will enable it again as soon as I can!

Thanks, Gary

Hi all, couple of quick updates on what I've been doing on a Sunday :computer:
  1. "Start a Conversation" has now been enabled again, and now it even quotes the post from which you click the link! :D I've hopefully resolved the conflict caused by this, so it should be back to stay.
  2. "Naked Zorg" style. In response to comments about the responsiveness of the site on "slow" internet connections, I have installed a third style. This is a pared down version of the default light theme and according to feedback (thanks Stevie_a) it performs much better on slow connections.
    • Don't use this style unless you are on a slow connection. It does not have all the new site features enabled on it, so you will be missing out if you choose to run it for other reasons.
As always, give me a shout if you have any questions.
Gary

...and "start a conversation" switched off again until I figure it out. Will update when it's back on again.

You can still use the private conversation system as usual, just need to start one from the menu.
