A small modification to the ramp oil drainer. Its needed doing since I made it, with the bowl having to be drilled off centre due to stiffening web underneath,
20230310_155523.jpg

it was a bit saggy till the oil ran into the barrel. I decided to fit a support to the other side of the bowl using some alloy tubing.

I needed some thin rubber washers to seal the bolt in the bowl and made some out of a piece of bike inner tube with 6mm hole punched (cut) in it squashed between 2 big flat washers then trimmed with a craft knife.
Should make for easier draining on the next Shed day.

Tony.

I was going to ask that when I was at your place last time… How do you get hid of the oil/anti-freeze? I suppose the local dump?

When I lived in Buckinghamshire I had a place to take this kind of fluids for disposal, but the last time I've been to my local dump in North Cambridgeshire they didn't seem to have an option to dispose of oil.

That's another thing I end up with is waste oil. I can take it to the local WLDC recycling centre in Gainsborough though so I just encorporate it into a trip into town. I used to get rid of scrap metal, discs, pads, springs etc. where I used to work as they had a skip. I can't do that anymore.

I once took my old engine oil to the local recycling centre, and because it was just over 6 litres, it was in two 5 litre containers.

The staff member came to me and said I couldn't put both in, because "that quantity could be commercial waste, and we don't accept commercial waste"
I explained the quantity was due to the Z3 engine type, but he would not have it, and said "there is CCTV and I have got your number plate".

I said "OK that's fine, I will take one home, and put in the bottom of my wheelie bin instead, it will get covered by the other rubbish"..
he nearly choked...Jobsworth.

then I noticed the following 'domestic waste' in the metal skip,

because we all have to take the shopping trollies that we keep in the house, to the tip eventually......

Amazing how consistent all these local authorities are isn't it? I left an old knackered light duty garden wheel barrow out at the gate a couple of years ago and they didn't take it. I cut it up with an angle grinder and put it in the the black bin and they took it the next week!
Re engine oil, I can take a 25 ltr drum and tip it into their bulk drum without issue which obviously better than tipping it down a drain or into the hedge bottom, plus of course they actually sell it anyway for recycling.

The last garage i worked at all waste oil fed the garage heating system, don't suppose that would be allowed now. Good way to recycle though it did create a bit of smoke!

Tony, I am quite happy bringing home my scrap stuff. I'm sure everybody else would be too. Just very grateful for the help and use of your tools and expertise.

Next Shed day will be on Saturday 25th. Will be the last one until the middle of June onwards. Need to test the modified oil drainer. So if you have anything which needs some Shed attention shout up.

@t-tony I need the front ball joints done, or the rear springs and dumpers. Can we fit one or the other?

Well if there's a bacon butty involved . . .

I do need an excuse to get the Zed out to check the 1st & 2nd gear change, may just peer underneath (if not busy) to see if the rear gearbox seal is a worry - or not.

And thought (on you having to buy a second container of engine oil recently): I have partial containers of engine and gearbox oil. They just sit in my garage - possibly forever - do you want them, so next time you only have to buy 1 x 5l container ? Won't half clutter up your otherwise excellently organised garage mind, but I do have it here if you need it . . .

Sure thing Dave, if you bring 5 litres of engine oil there’s 3.5 here.
