Zeds

For me it would be a 4 with a 3 front end grafted on. Probably look a dogs dinner in real life but ,hey , we can't all be the same.

Well I won’t rock the boat, but the Z4 coupe e86 with its N52B30 engine is something you need to experience for yourself, its my favourite drivers car. I couldn’t afford an “M” or to run one so that’s the only reason I prefer this coupe. My old Z3 2.8lt Roadster was a great car to own for 11 yrs but hankered for a e86 coupe ever since I first saw one, having reached retirement age I knew I might miss out if I waited any longer so the sale of the Z3 along with some hard fought savings allowed me to go one better IMO, not that I really wanted to part with the Z3 but no other family member came to my rescue so we could keep it in the family. Which one is best I couldn’t make that judgment, which one is satisfying my ego at the moment, well it’s the coupe, could easy have been the Z3M or Z4M coupe had i the funds. The Z3/4 are IMO two so different cars but that Z badge on each tells a lovely story for I’d have both in a wink of your eye.;)

Only having a 3 it would be hard for me to pass judgement. I love the size and look of my 3. I love feeling the road. I am so impressed with BMW period. Never had one before this.

I have to say, I love my 3, but If I ever went to a 4, it would have to be a coupe. Your Z looks awesome, and I love those wheels! I guess in a perfect world, I would keep my ragtop, and get a coupe to burn up the road. But Im like you, can only swing one toy at a time.

I know the size and offset of your wheels probably would be different then what I need on my 2.8. But what are the dimensions on your wheels. Love the bigger dish in the rear. my goal is to go wider on the rear and eliminate spacers. that wheel looks bad ass.

another one I like is on Oldham1994. Cant get him to respond so don't even know if he is on here anymore.

Any comments on the look of the 2019 Z4 - can't make my mind up

I like the look of it, but new cars seem to be getting very expensive.

Entry model £36,000

Launch model £48,000

Certainly makes a new MX5 look good value.

My 1st zed was a brand new Z4. Kept it for four years and loved it. Then, while looking for a replacement I borrowed a Z3. Ended up owning it and never looked back.

So which is the best, the 3 or the 4 ?
Sorry Ian, stupid question;). You may as well ask which is better fiesta or golf. As someone who has owned both Z3 and Z4, they are totally different cars so cant be directly compared. For the record my ownership is Z3, Z3 and a Z4, and now 2 x Z3s so I think you can work out my answer=))

Just my opinon-----
I have both. Which is best? That depends on what you mean and which model of Z4 and which is best for what?

As a drivers car, the Z3 would win for me everyday of the week. For looks, well the Z3 is I think a stunning car (pre-facelift, not a fan of the face-lift rear) The Z4 (E85) is lovely at the rear, bit of a dog front on. The Z4 lets a lot more air into the cabin with the roof down, so not so good in the winter. Steering on the Z4 is pants. Build quality on the Z3 is much better, just close the doors on both and the Z4 sounds tinny.

The roof system is far better on the Z4 and the glass rear window is a much better design, the Z4 is much more watertight too. I find the Z3 so much more comfortable to drive for any length of time than the Z4. BUT and a biggy for me now .....the boot on the Z4 is just so much more usable if you travel.

That said I think for fun the Z3, for practicality, the Z4. But I don't think you can really compare to two, they both have their pros and cons.
As has been said on here, apples and pears ------or cider and perry

Z3 for driving Z4 for long distance.
Best would be the front of the Z3 and the rear of the Z4 E85

The previous owner found and fitted these TSW wheels to the coupe that you like, here’s the dimensions.
TSW Ascent 18x9.5 ET39 rear and 18x8.5 ET36 front.
He also put 15mm spacers on front and 10mm on rear which has helped helped with bigger discs clearance and worked tremendously for the look and stance, not to mention the road holding, doubt you’ll get away with the same on your Z3.
You could fit the above size wheels with a ET35 all round which is what I had on my Z3 2.8, pic under.

Didn’t need any spacers to get this very chunky look on the back with 245x35x18-ET35 tyres and 225x40x18 tyres on front. Staggered wheels and tyres on a Z3 make for a good stance IMO.
With the rear wheel being 9.5in there’s a slight stretch for the tyre as with the front on 8.5in, problem with any stretch on a wheel tyre combination it leaves the rim very susceptible to kerb damage as the tyre no longer protects the rim. This is why I’ve had to put Gator protectors on the coupe wheels which has so far kept rim damage through bad driver kerbing to nil, actually supposed to take them off once I’m used to the coupe but still dare not remove as they’ve worked great and my driving hasn’t.
Hope this is helpfull.

I don't dislike the look of it apart from the front grills but it has far too much electronic junk on it to interest me. I like a simple drivers car.

Thanks so much for all the info on the wheels. I totally agree that the staggered look is the best. What wheels are they.

Like the look of both. Can't really comment on the drive as I aint used my Z3 much at all.

Wheels on the Z3 are Japan Racing JR10, they're diamond cut one peace split rim look-a-like and PITA to keep clean. Not the best wheels out there but do suite the Z3 in that size.
