I wish it was this simple but unfortunately the 'squirting' noise has been present since before an oil change when the filter was also replaced. The replacement filter (Mann) was also replaced due to ill fitment (eurocarparts). Also check the oil filter.
Yes.Did you have this noise with the original airbox fitted David?
Tony.

So three filters later, the noise is still present.
Yes.
MOT tomorrow, so I will ask my Indy to have a good look around the car on top of the usual checks to see if he sees anything amiss. Wish me luck!
Hi PJ,Hey David, did you manage to find and cure the problem?
I haven’t yet, but that’s because what INPA showed suggested that I didn’t have any unmetered air coming in.Not the same problem Dave but Ive got a code for "weak mixture on bank 2" which may be a manifold gasket, but no smell of fuel which I thought was strange on yours. Of course the answer is to spray carb spray which I'll have a go tomorrow. Have you tried that yet Dave.
Nice work mate. Shame about the costs involved with the disa though.Time to update!
This weekend I finally made a start replacing the CVV and inspecting everything under the intake manifold.
Here I very nearly have the manifold out:
As you can see, there's plenty of oil on the underside of the manifold, and at first I thought "hooray, it's the CVV leaking".
Once I got the manifold out, it was clear to see the oil was not leaking from the CVV, but instead from the Secondary DISA valve that is located on the underside of the N52 mani.
Engine bay looking very empty:
I pulled out the Secondary DISA and:
The permanent gasket and inner seal is f*cked.
Phoned up BMW, and ordered a replacement at an eye-water £220, with forum discount.
Now, I don't mind paying for replacement parts when they've stopped working, but having to pay that amount for a part, just because a bit of rubber has failed is a different story...
Inspected inside the intake manifold, and as I expected from looking inside when removing the Primary DISA valve a while back, it was coated in oil. This is probably the reason for the rubber on the Secondary DISA failing, and is almost certainly caused by a failing CVV.
To be honest, I'm actually relieved that I've located two genuine issues after all the work involved in removing the mani. At least I now know I most likely won't need to remove it again ...he says!
The starter motor is occasionally not disengaging so I'll be inspecting and repairing/replacing that while I'm here, and a couple of little bits too; an engine vanity cover torx screw and a couple of hose clips.
I will update once all is reassembled!
David
Thanks Tony - I hate to say it, but the car being a low-miler before my ownership is the probable reason for all this. Lots of short journeys, and lots of time sat still for the oil to destroy the rubber.Nice work mate. Shame about the costs involved with the disa though.
Tony.
